config ntp server on 15.1.2.12 670-48p-10g

  • 1.  config ntp server on 15.1.2.12 670-48p-10g

    Command Ref (http://extrcdn.extremenetworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/EXOSCommandRef_15.1_Version4.pdf) says "configure ntp [server | peer] add [ | ] {key
    } {option [burst | initial-burst]}"

670-48p-10g does not recognize "sh ntp" or "config ntp"

Just want to point it to a local time server.

    What am I missing?

If you have 15.1 installed you will require a NTP XMOD to configure NTP. With the correct entitlement this can be found on the support website. This is better explained in the article below:

    https://gtacknowledge.extremenetworks.com/articles/Q_A/is-ntp-xmod-mandatory-to-enable-NTP-server

    Hope this helps!

sntp was doing fine, but now I need the x440g1 / exos 15.2.2.7 to become a time server after the ntp xmod install.

The remote peer or server is reachable only on vr-mgmt: ‘ping vr vr-mgmt 10.100.10.94’ works,

How to configure that time server and peers are on vr-mgmt?

Time will be asked from vr-default vlans.

    show ntp association
Remote                    Reference ID    St Poll Reach Delay   Offset   Disp
    ========================= =============== == ==== ===== ======= ======== =======
     !10.100.10.94            INIT            16 64   0     0.00000 +0.00000 3.99217

To add to what Patrick has mentioned here, EXOS versions less than 15.4 are near or have already reached End-of-Support.
Have a look at the Recommended Release document (due for an update soon!)

Will do, but anything that didn't get updated this summer will likely wait until next. Seems school breaks get shorter all the time (all way more gear to keep updated).
    Thank you!

That works. Not what is in the manual, but....
SH-AGG-670-48p-10g.7 # sh sntpSNTP client is enabled
    SNTP time is valid
    Primary server:10.90.2.162 VR-Default
    Secondary server:
    Broadcasts: VR-Mgmt
    Query interval:64
Last valid SNTP update: From server:10.90.2.162, on Thu Oct 1 17:53:34 2015

That is because they are two different protocols.

Too many switch brands, versions, languages...
    Thank you very much!
How to I mark this resolved and kudos to you?

You can like my comments and I am sure Drew will take care of the resolved part 🙂.

I agree breaks in general get shorter and shorter.

I'll take care of the "resolution" here. Glad we could help.
Just to clarify, is SNTP what you were looking for? Or did Patrick's NTP information help?

For the switch to get the time from our time server, so sntp appears to be the correct answer. Didn't realize they were different (stuck on another vendor language this week, lol).

NTP will also provide the time. I would recommend taking a look at both to see which one fits your criteria better. I know it seems like a simple concept but the way certain situations are handled is different.
