Since the takeover of Avaya network products, we would like to see when the Avaya network products can be managed by Extreme management tool?

    Hi CK,

There are two phases to convergence Avaya products on Extreme Management Center(EMC).
    • Phase - 1: EMC 8.1 which adds the support for VOSS and BOSS -> the target release is Q1 2018
    • Phase - 2: EMC 8.2 which adds the support for Fabric provisioning -> the target release is Mid-2018
Please note that all product release will be on a when-and-if vailable basis.

    Best regards,
    Bin

    Hi,

In that case, the current Extreme Management release 8.0.4 or 8.0.5 cannot manage any ERS/VSP switches at all. Is this a correct statement?

Hi. With 8.0.4 you can manage VOSS and BOSS in many ways out-of-the-box. You can see ports, you can backup config, you can use flexvies (github already published), you can script... mibs are already there also... What exactly you want to acchieve? Z.

    Hi CK,

    I agree with Pala,

We can add the device into EMC console and monitor also most of the functions should work.

Let us know if you have any questions with any specific feature.

    Thanks,

Does EMC has API to communicate with VSP and ERS switches (retrieve info and push configurations)?

    Z,

Thanks for reply. It is good to know that. We will try out the EMC before deploying for end customer. Btw, what is VOSS and BOSS?

Avaya switching portfolio (now Extreme 🙂 ) does have ERS switches and VSP switches.

ERS switches are running operating system called BOSS
VSP switches are running operating system called VOSS

so both operating systems are manageable by Extreme Management Center.

    Hi CK,

VOSS is the operation system for VSP.
BOSS is the operation system for ERS.

I also agree with Pala. EMC could be SNMP manager for ERS and VSP.

    Hi Zhen,

There is no need to use API (Extreme Management Center has one, though). It works with SNMP, MIBs and scripts mainly.
