Slow wifi 2.4ghz

Slow wifi 2.4ghz

Hi

I have a couple (25-30) of AP310 connected to a Wing 9000 controller.
Wifi is working fine, coverage is good, but when clients switch to the 2.4ghz band, throught put is low. Speeds show a 10/10 to 20/40 on a gigibit line.
When og 5ghz there are no issues at all. Low ping, high speed.

I cannot figure out where the problem is.

2.4ghz running 20mhz on channel 1, 6 and 11.
5ghz running 40mhz on channel 36,40,44,48,149,153,157 and 161.

Any one who might have a pointer to where the problem might be (if there are any)?

Hi Robert,

the first things I'd check...

- too many SSIDs in the 2.4Ghz band
- MBR (min basic rate) set to a very low value i.e. 1Mb > I'd go with 12Mb
- TKIP instead of AES

Hi Ron

When looking at the statistics, the clients experiencing the slow throughput are getting on 2.4ghz bgn network, Even tho they are capable of ax standards. The issue here is i do not get why some clients get forced on tp this.

Maybe you have an idea about that?

Robert

Hi Robert

The most likely cause on 2.4Ghz band is CCI/ACI, you can look at your channel plan and power to see if you can reduce interference as much as possible, although this is very difficult on 2.4Ghz.  This article explains CCI/ACI https://extremeportal.force.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000087241

AP's cannot force a client onto 2.4Ghz, it is up to the client to decide where to connect.  Some techniques such as only putting critical services on 5Ghz or using band steering may help.  On the client side some devices allow you to select band preference and weight the choice towards 5Ghz over 2.4Ghz.
