The osapiTimer task, appearing as one of the many tasks viewed in the output of a 'show system utilization process' command (5894), is responsible for servicing other timers used by the system.

Specifically, the purpose of the osapiTimer task is to allocate and deallocate timers for protocols like GARP, STP, Link Aggregation, etc, according to the standards defined by the protocol. If the protocol timers are set to lower values, the osapiTimer task will be busy servicing them and will consume more CPU time.

Sometimes this task may display a higher than expected CPU Utilization value, because it runs at twice the rate of the task that calculates the CPU Utilization.
