edp information not listing

Hi,

When I try to obtain EDP information from a particular switch using the SHOW EDP PORT ALL command I do not receive any details.

All our other switches display the detail correctly when using the above command.

Is there any reason why EDP information will not show up?

The uplink on the problem switch is a Fibre connection running on Port 48 (Shared) SFP connector.

If port 48 is being used as the uplink port should appear as a port in the VLANs or not?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

It might be a bug which is already fixed.
Make sure peers have Edp enabled ( all the switches ) you could also run a capture and see if Edp is received on this switch.
See if there is any difference in software version of other working switches.
Try restart process Edp .

Hey Parthiban,

Thanks for this. I'll go and try now.

I do know that EDP is enabled on all switches as I can run the various EDP commands on them.
As for software the problem switch is using 15.6.1.4, (you may recall you advised me to use this version last week.)
All the other switches will be on older versions. The one I am curently using as a reference is using 15.2.1.15.
Do different S/W version create issues?

As far as I know if we receive Edp then we should display and if we send Edp the peers should display . Not sure what is changed in new exos ... Need to check release notes, feature list to compare and to fix these issues.
But I would say 15.2 is very old we should move to a better stable version .
15.3.1.4 latest patch used to be the most stable version

Hi Parthiban,

I'm thinking this is a comms/networking/ issue.

From the problem switch I cannot receive any EDP Details. From other switches EDP displays but NOT for the problem switch.

I think I need to work out why my switch is not communicating on the network.
Must be an IP issue or similar.

I have a seperate post logged at: https://community.extremenetworks.com/extreme/topics/new-stack-unable-to-connect-to-network

I will however go to the problem device, restart EDP and sync the Stack Config just to ensure that any changes have been replicated.

Hi Parthiban,

On the new software there doesn't appear to be an option to restart the EDP Process. To get around this I have saved any achanges made to the config file, synced the file between the stack members and finally rebooted the stack.

Same problem though. When I run SHOW EDP PORTS ALL nothing is displayed

Should be a layer 2 problem.see if default vlan is added in uplink port.
Check tagging and vlan details on uplink are right.
I assume no acl applied to the uplink.

Hi buddy,

I presumme you meant..."see if Uplink Port is added in Default VLAN" - I checked and it is.
VLAN tags are set to be the same as VLAN tags on other working switches.

Something I have noticed on the other switches in use though.....4 VLANs exist (A, C, Default & MGMT)

On VLan-A the uplink port (24) is shown as tagged. All other ports untagged
On Vlan-C the uplink port (24) is hown as tagged. All other ports untagged
On VLan-Default all ports are untagged including uplink port.

Is that correct?

Yes config is right .
Can you enable lldp on both switches and check if lldp is able see neighbours ?

Hi Parthiban,

I have enabled LLDP and ran commands to view neighbors. Nothing was reported, after pressing return/enter the system just returned me to a blank command line.

Parthiban,

Following on from the LLDP test I undertook yesterday evening I decided to look at the config of another switch (stadalone) and compare the configs side-by-side.

The problem switch still has the same issue. It doesn't seem to be able to communicate with anything on the network and, in reverse, nothing on the network can communicate with the switch.

Looking at a switch that works perfectly well, I've noticed that there is no IP information associated with any of the VLANs. The only IP address i can see is a single address associated with the Default VLAN.

Does the above seem correct?

I would have thought that somewhere in the config an IP address would have had to be assigned to either the physical device or at least one of the VLANs in order to facilitate communication.

Any suggestions? I can email config/setup files from either switch if it helps.

Many thanks for all your efforts on metter. It is greatly appreciated.

Jason.

It will be better with access to the problematic switch
Sorry for the delayed response . I am traveling for 2 more days.
Is it ok to create a case with tac?
They will need access to the switch

Hi Parthiban,

No problem with the delayed response. I really am thankful for the assistance you and Paul Russo have shown on this and other issues I have logged.

Do you have a number for the TAC. I tried the UK Numbers on the Extreme Website but the call is never answered. I would be really happy to get the TAC involved in this matter and giving them access to the switch is not a problem.

Thanks very much,

Jason
