Erroring installing XMOD

Greetings.  I'm trying to install the SSH module on a Black Diamond 8806 and after the switch copies the file over to both MSM-A and MSM-B and tries to install the xmod file I get an error saying that the "src file can't be read."  I've downloaded the xmod file from Extreme three different times and I get the same error with each file.  I have upgraded other switches and haven't had any issues.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brandon

Hey Brandon

I have not seen that error before.  I am assuming you are using the same version number as the .xos and that it is for the BD8800.

I would open a case with TAC so they can verify that maybe the image on the site isn't corrupt.

Thanks

I have seen this error under one circumstance - the switch only holds onto downloaded image file at a time. For example:

I transfer the NTP image to the switch via SFTP.
I start the install of the image;
During the install, I transfer the next image I was planning to install (for example, openflow) to the switch BEFORE the first install is complete;
This error occurs.

I don't know if this scenario is similar to yours at all, but this is the only instance where I've seen this message. Also, be sure to verify the MD5 on each image file against the MD5 reference text file for that image version (available from the same spot on the esupport site as the image files.)

Oddly enough the version of firmware on the switch I have is 12.1.1.4 yet the SSH module I get when I download the module for the 12.1.1.x firmware says it's for the 12.1.2.17 firmware.  I'm wondering if that isn't what's causing the issue but the TAC hasn't given me a response yet.

As far has only having one image file at a time, I'm not trying to install any other image files.  Is it possible there is an image previously on the switch that wasn't completely installed/removed after installation?

Thanks,

Brandon

Hey Brandon

You can have two images and associated xmods on a switch at the same time and can switch between them with a reboot.  The images need to match exactly so if it is showing 12.1.2.17 then that is an issue.
