I am wondering if others have experience with Miracast devices in an enterprise (school) environment? We have very recently deployed an Extreme wireless solution and at the same time installed a handful of Netgear PTV3000 wireless display adapters. These are connected to classroom projectors. I was concerned that these wireless display adapters could cause RF interference with clients. Today I performed a channel scan using inSSIDer in a room with a PTV3000 and found that when a client connects to it and begins projecting that the client transmits a very strong signal on the same channel as the access point the client is connected to, stronger than the AP signal. So I can only conclude that that when in use these wireless display adapters, or rather the clients connected to them, will interfere with other clients which are connected to the same AP and thus are on the same channel. I am wondering if others have experimented with miracast adapters in an enterprise environment and what your conclusions were? Was a way found to minimise this interference? Was another wireless display solution required, and if so what solution? Many thanks in advance

Miracast uses WiFi Direct. WiFi Direct is essentially a secured point to point WiFi connection. Since Miracast uses a WiFi signal to communicate, it is at least a friendly interferer. The performance impact of this is similar to a user streaming a video on a neighboring network. If it were a non-WiFi signal in the same frequency band, the impact would be much more severe.

The devices, when in use, should be no worse than a "power user" on your network. They can, and probably will, consume a large amount of the bandwidth on the channel, but they will compete for air time just the same as any of the other WiFi devices on that channel.
