Hi everyone,

We have Cisco WS-C3850-12S-E switch on one end and Extreme Networks X440-48t on the other. Are Cisco GLC-BX on one side of the optical link and Extreme Networks 1000base-bx on the other compatible? Is this link going to be operable? I didn't find any reliable information on the Internet about this...

As long as the link speeds are compatible, you shouldn't have a problem.

The Extreme Networks 1000BX optics are listed as being compatible with the Summit X440 (here).

There is a chance that you will need to manually configure auto-negotiation, however.  To do that, enter the appropriate command, listed below:
configure ports port_list { medium [ copper | fiber]} auto off speed speed duplex [ half | full]
configure ports port_list { medium [ copper| fiber]} auto on {[{ speed speed} { duplex [ half | full]}] | [{ duplex [ half | full]} { speed speed}]}
