Goals
The above-stated products support the application of licensing to permanently unlock certain firmware features, or to install software. Customers who purchase one or more of these licenses will receive for each, either via email or on paper, an "Entitlement ID" (also known as a "Web Key") entitling them to a single-unit or multi-unit license.

This document discusses how to process a purchased Entitlement ID to obtain a license character string suitable for installing into an Enterasys switch/router, or into an application server.

Solution

             * Log into the Enterasys Licensing portal *

  1. Browse to https://extranet.extremenetworks.com/MySupport/Licensing/.
  2. As necessary, use the "Create an account now" or "Forgot your password?" links.
  3. Type your User Name (registered e-email address) and Password into the text boxes, and click the Sign In button.

  4.        * Locate your Purchased License *
                                 -or-
           * Request an Evaluation License *

  5. On the "Welcome to Enterasys Licensing" page, if you have purchased a license, skip to step 10.
  6. Click the 'Evaluation License Request' link.
  7. Select the proper Product Family dropdown list item:
Select a Product Family: Choose one...
    SecureStack
    NetSight
    Enterasys Fixed Switching
    Identifi Wireless

  9. Click the Submit button.
  10. You will receive an email which includes instructions and your Entitlement ID - exactly the information a license purchaser would receive, except that the resulting license will expire 30 days from the completion of step 8. Note that a given user may request only a limited number of evaluation licenses.

  11.        * Redeem the Entitlement ID to add it to your Licensing Account *

  12. On the "Welcome to Enterasys Licensing" page, whether you have a purchased or evaluation Entitlement ID, click the 'Redeem Entitlement ID' link.
  13. On the "Redeem Entitlement ID Request" page, fill in the text box information for the new Entitlement:
     Entitlement ID: <Entitlement ID>
Entitlement Description: <Description for your later license management use>
  14. Click the Redeem button.
Note: If you receive error message "The Entitlement Id entered does not exist in the licensing system.", there are at least two reason for this:
        - The entered ID does not contain the dash characters ("-") which are required to be present between the multiple alphanumeric character groups. If for example you are emailed Entitlement ID "
ef137d1271ba1541c79b0", the ID you need to enter is "ef13-7d12-71ba-1541-c79b-0".
        - The characters "0", "O", "1" and/or "I" are part of the ID but have been misinterpreted and mistyped when entering the ID.
If neither of these conditions seem to apply, then please
      contact the GTAC for assistance.
    • The "...Entitlement ID has been verified..." reply includes the newly added item:
       Entitlement ID: Manage this Entitlement
Entitlement Description: <Description for your later license management use

    •        * Activate the Entitlement ID...

    • License activation requires that a minimum of one parameter (and possibly more, product-specific) be entered, in order to complete the final phase of generating the license key string that must be entered into the end product in order for it to recognize the entitlement and activate the feature. The required parameter is one of the following:
      • end customer Company Name (for C5/K/S/7100-Series, and NetSight v4.2.1* and higher) - Skip to step 15.
      • destination Controller or Server MAC Address (for IdentiFi Wireless (14973), and NetSight v2.2 through v4.4*) - Skip to step 22.
      • destination Switch Serial Number (for B2/B3/C3/G-Series) - Skip to step 29.
*NetSight v4.2.1 through 4.4 supports both license types (5368), to assist with the transition process.

    •                                            ...against an end customer Company Name *

    • On the "Welcome to Enterasys Licensing" page, click the 'My License List' link.
    • On the "My Licenses List" page, from the list of your managed (but unActivated) licenses, select the Entitlement ID to be Activated.
Note1: The mention on this web page of the user's ability to toggle licenses between Active and InActive status, and filter the license view based those attributes, is strictly a user management convenience. These are not related to the process of Activating a license as discussed in this KB document.
Note2: If you cannot locate the Activation ID you just redeemed in step 12 with this account, see 12752.
        • On the "License Details" page, click the Activate button.
        • In the "Key Activation Details" section, enter the Company Name of the end customer. Inclusion of spaces is permissible, but please avoid "special" characters outside of a-z, A-Z, and 0-9 with punctuation. Use of such "special" characters may cause the generated Activation Key to not be accepted by the licensed product.
        • Click the Generate button.
Note: In the case of a multi-license purchase (listed Quantity greater than 1), after redemption the license instances will each be listed for Activate or Re-gen action, to derive multiple unique Activation Key strings each tailored for a given install destination.
          • On the "License Details" page will be displayed the Activation Key to be used to copy and install onto the product. This key string is very long - about 150 characters - and ends with "==". Only about the first half of it is visible in the display window. If the copied text string does not end with the double equal signs, then the license key has not been fully captured, so must be re-copied.

                  contact the GTAC for assistance.
                • Click the Sign Out link, then skip to step 37.

                •                                            ...against a Switch Serial Number *

                • On the "Welcome to Enterasys Licensing" page, click the 'My License List' link.
                • On the "My Licenses List" page, from the list of your managed (but unActivated) licenses, select the Entitlement ID to be Activated.

Note2: If you cannot locate the Activation ID you just redeemed in step 12 with this account, see 12752.
                    • In the embedded "Enterasys Licensing" page, click the Activate button.
                    • In the embedded web page where it lists the "Activatable Line Items", click the check-box to select the one item shown, then click the Activate button.
                    • In the embedded "activate licenses" page, fill in the text box information to (optionally) identify your ownership and to generate a license tailored to your installation:
                       Ship to Mail: <email address>
                      Node-Locked HostId: ID_STRING=<Switch_hardware_serial#>
                    • Click the Generate button.
Note1: If you receive error message "Invalid Host ID: <serial#> # nnnn-nnnnn", this is because the entered serial# contains digits other than 0-9, a-f, or A-F. These serial numbers must be entered starting with "ID_STRING=" (otherwise optional, this formatting in all cases has the additional desirable side-effect of capitalizing any serial# letters in the resulting license string). For instance, "ID_STRING=07371504025G" instead of "07371504025G". As explained in the Licensed Product Entitlement ID instructions received upon purchase of a feature license, this is the recommended method.
Note2: In the case of a multi-license purchase such as the B2POL-LIC25/50 or B3POL-LIC25/50, the same ID may be run through the Activation process multiple times up to the limit of the license, to derive multiple unique Activation Key strings each tailored for a given install destination.
Note3: If you receive error message "The activation of the fulfillment is denied by the activation policy because fulfill count exceeded the seat count # nnnn-nnnnn", this is because the license has already been tied to the maximum number of hosts (as is viewable in "view licenses"). If one of its existing licensed hosts is no longer in licensed use, you may rehost this license from the existing licensed host to the new licensed host. Otherwise, please use a different license.
                          • On the embedded "view licenses" page will be displayed the license key to be used to copy and install onto the product.

                            • To install HiPath/Enterasys/IdentiFi Wireless product licensing, see 16133.
                            • The licensing of any other products (e.g. C2-Series (5828), D-Series (10791), and N-Series (50255468)) is not part of the online licensing system as described in this document.

                                 * Rehost the License after Switch Hardware Replacement or NetSight App reinstall *

If a B2, B3, C3, or G-Series unit with installed license (steps 29-36 above) has been replaced via RMA, or if a NetSight server with installed license (steps 22-28 above) has been replaced, then customers and partners may directly rehost (from the old device to the new device) a limited number of times per year.

                          Follow this procedure:
                          1. Browse to, and log into, https://extranet.extremenetworks.com/MySupport/Licensing/.
