Hi, I try to create layer 2 load balance system within 2 x460 switch connected with 2 different link with different speed. Can I do that?

Thanks

Hi Yohan,

You cannot support load sharing among port media types with different maximum speed.
For example you cannot create a load share with two ports of which one is a 1 gig port and the other a 10 gig port.

You also cannot create a load share if you have configured a different port speed on both identical port types.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

Sorry for the mislead information. I mean, i will use the same port (Gigabit Ethernet) but the physical link itself is different. 1 link via ISP A with 100Mbps speed and another link via ISP B with 200Mbps speed.

Hi Yohan,

In any case, the physical port speed should be equal.

Other than that, if you are going to split this to different ISPs it cannot be a shared port unless the peer side is using MLAG across those ISP locations.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the response. Is there a way to set unequal load balance between those link? The 200Mbps link will get 2 packet / frames and the 100Mbps link will get 1 frame.

Thanks
Yohan

Hi Yohan,

No, the Load-Sharing algorithm selection is not intended for use in predictive traffic engineering.
It expect two identical links and if one link is actually not capable of carrying the traffic, it can result in possible traffic loss.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron and Yohan, how are you?

I have the same problem, I am trying to configure LAG using LACP on X460 switches and when I put the command "enable sharing 1 grouping 29-30 algorithm address-based L2 lacp" the error "Error: System cannot support Load Sharing among port media types with different maximum speed" appears.

P.S.: I tried to disable auto negociate on 29-30 "configure ports 33 auto off speed 1000 duplex full and configure ports 34 auto off speed 1000 duplex full" ports and one more error "Error: Auto negotiation off is not supported on port 33. and Error: Auto negotiation off is not supported on port 34."

How can I solve this problem?

Thanks,
