NetSight Compass Question

NetSight Compass Question

I am trying to use Compass in the latest version of NetSight (7.0.3.12). When I look at the results for a search, all of the end-user switches have a port listed of 1000006, even the switch that hosts the device I'm searching for. Is this a bug, or is there a meaning behind this number? If I do the same search within Ridgeline, I can find the device very quickly.

Hello,

Yes this is normal as we are reading a list of MIB tables from the switches and if there is a 'hit' then we will display that. If you scroll all the way over to the right in the Compass results you will see a column for Source. This is MIB table where the result was seen.

If you click on the Option button you will see a list of all the tables that we search on the switch in order to find a result. At the very least make sure that ipNetToMedia and dot1d/q options are checked as these will be the main tables we get information from on this switch (at this time).

If you sort the results of the compass search on the MAC Address column it should like up the MAC/IP for the device and the port (if the front panel port was found).
