• To configure an NTP server, use the following command:configure ntp [server | peer] add [ip_address | host_name] {key keyid} {option
[burst | initial-burst]}
configure ntp restrict-list [add | delete] network {mask} [permit | deny]
• To delete an NTP server, use the following command:
configure ntp [server | peer] delete [ip_address | host_name]
• To display NTP server or client information, use the following commands:
show ntp
show ntp association [{ip_address} | {host_name}]
show ntp restrict-list {user | system | all}
show ntp sys-info

Please refer page 70in concepts guide 15.6 for more information

Hi Paul, If you're not able to configure or enable NTP immediately after installing, it may be necessary to execute the run update command to refresh the installed modules.  As Parthiban indicated, you won't need to reboot.

I'm creating a new thread so that we can keep new topics separated.

Please reference the new conversation here: Converting 3com port config to EXOS config

Can servers point to sync time on the Extreme switch NTP? ExtremeSwitch as a NTP server.

Yes. Please check EXOS User Guide v15.7, Using the Network Time Protocol (pages 70-75) for more information and configuration examples.

Thanks Daniel and Hi all,

Sorry my belated reply.
For the rest and better management on this HUB.
I just want to share config that i deploy.
I am able to implement Extreme Switch as a NTP server. PC as a NTP client.
Following is the Steps that i performed.

"Install NTP module to switch"

download image 10.49.0.200 summitX-15.3.3.5-patch1-6-ntp.xmod vr "VR-Default" primary >> Yesinstall image "summitX-15.3.3.5-patch1-6-ntp.xmod" >> Yes
run update

sh switch  - Check Clock, Timezone, XOS version and Image Booted partition
sh version image
sh ntp
sh ntp vlan
sh process ntp

------------------------------------------------------------------------
"SNTP disable"
SNTP and NTP cannot run concurrently.

Copy and backup SNTP config (if you have sntp config)
unconfigure sntp-client primary/secondary x.x.x.x  vr "VR-Default"
disable sntp-client
sh sntp-client

------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Configure Time on Switch"

configure time 4 27 2015 19 5 00

sh switch  - Check Clock
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Configure NTP"

sh switch - Check Current Time & Timezone again
# configure timezone name SGT 480 (for Singapore timezone GMT+8  60min x 8 = 480min)
# enable ntp
# enable ntp all   (to enable for all VLANs )
# configure ntp local-clock stratum 3
# configure ntp server add x.x.x.x

Thank you.

Hi Daniel,

my setup for NTP.

NTP Server is Extreme Switch.
NTP clients are Windows Servers that connect to the switch.

Daniel,

Paul's commands correspond to the switch. The configuration in the clients usually involves  configuring the IP address of the NTP server.

If you want the switch to act as a server, there's a few additional things you need to do:
1. Assign an IP address to the vlan through which the clients will contact the NTP server (configure vlan <vlan_name> add ipaddress <ip_address>/<mask>)
2. Enable the NTP broadcast server in that vlan (enable ntp vlan <vlan_name> broadcast-server {key keyid})
3. Configure the vlan to forward broadcast packets (enable ipforwarding broadcast <vlan_name>)
4. Check configuration with show ntp vlan <vlan_name>

Also, since v15.5 NTP is included in the main code and there's no need to load a separate xmod.

You may want to go one step forward and configure two or more switches as a peer group, for backup. Check the EXOS User Guide v16.1 page 75 (Managing NTP Peer Support) for details...
