Software upgrade procedure.

Solution
From your eSupport account (if you don't already have one, you may register for one using the "Request Web Login" link), download a copy of the EXOS version you will need. This will require a service contract or product warranty entitlement.
Then, use the following steps:

  1. Place the EXOS image on a working TFTP server.
  2. Ensure that you are able to ping the TFTP server from the switch from the appropriate virtual router. At least one of 'ping vr vr-Mgmt host' or 'ping vr vr-Default host' operations must successfully reach your TFTP server before you can proceed. After verifying the VR that reaches your TFTP server, specify that VR when you download the image in the next step.
  3. Issue the command 'download image  <TFTP server IP address>  <filename.xos>  <vr-Mgmt  or  vr-Default>'.
Note that it is unnecessary to specify the partition on which to load the new image, because by default it will be downloaded and installed on the non-active partition.
  4. Reboot the system for the upgrade to take effect: Enter the reboot command, then when asked if you want to reboot the switch now, reply yes.
If upgrading a BlackDiamond chassis with two MSMs, then follow the steps above only on the Master MSM – after which it will automatically synchronize with the Backup.

Prior to upgrade, consider reviewing the more detailed instructions available in the ExtremeXOS Concepts Guide (find it on the Documentation page, after clicking the "Software Documentation Archives, ExtremeXOS" link), "Software Upgrade and Boot Options" chapter. The above instructions are paraphrased from the "Installing a Core Image" section.
