Time-lapse location feature Netsight

Time-lapse location feature Netsight

Hi,
This post is around the time-lapse location feature in Netsight since I have spent the past few hours trying to track down details in documentation.
It is found in the Maps section of Oneview when you have a map type of floor plan. It sounds like you should be able to track users/devices as they move through the network.

From conversations with GTAC and what I have put together via documentation in the controllers it depends upon the location engine services in the wireless controllers to be enabled. If I am correct, and please correct me if I am wrong, this depends upon having radar licensing and AP's that support radar so you either need the 3725, or 3825, or you would have to dedicate only a single channel on the 3705 or 3805 AP's.

The question is, is all tracking only after the fact, or if you have specified an On-demand device to tracking.

Does the Location Batch Reporting feature allow you to track all users at the specified interval automatically in Oneview or do you need a 3rd party tool like Ekahau that is being used for Real Time Location Services and that is what the destination URL is? Is there anyway to point it to the Netsight or OneFabric Control center to enable time-lapse tracking without 3rd party tools?

Thank you,

Hi Ben,

The TimeLapse function in Device/Maps provides you an historical view of the predicted location for any specific device. It allows you to navigate back over the estimated location points of the device on a map. 'Where has this user been?'

You need to have Location enabled on the controller. Location reporting is a standard feature and is independent of Radar, however, RADAR Guardians (if installed) do improve the accuracy of the triangulation.

However it requires at minimum AP37xx revision hardware.

You need Netsight-Advanced for visibility of the floorplan/MAP.

Currently (9.15), Location automatically tracks all devices associated with the Wireless controller and directly provides reports on user location/delta to Netsight via dedicated messaging protocol. OnDemand can be used to track up to 32 non-associated devices (by mac).

The Location Reporting Batch is not related to OneView. It is a periodic (minimum 1 minute) dump/push of the location tables from the controller to a 3rd party entity. It was specifically designed for integration with PurpleWiFi, but the operation is generic enough that can work with any other vendor who's able to parse the location batch reports. The specified URL simply indicates to the controller the WebServer to which the File (location batch) is to be uploaded. 3rd party solutions can then parse the file to display and track whatever user specific information is relevant for their application.

Thank you that helps clarify things quite a bit.
