VX9000 on AWS can't add secondary storage

Userlevel 3
Hi,
Trying to add secondary storage for VX9000 instance on AWS, but it fails:
VX-AWS#service database use-secondary-storage ************************************ WARNING ************************************* ** Execution of this command will configure this device to store the database ** ** files on a secondary drive. This device will reload after execution. ** ** NOTE: Current database files will be erased. ** ************************************************************************************ Are you sure you want to proceed? (y/n): y % Error: No available secondary block device: xvda
[/code]The problem is that there is indeed a secondary block storage device attached to the instance, but it shows as sdb in the AWS console.

Is there a way to tell the VX to used sdb and not xvda ?

Thanks!

Hey Andrew,

Long story short - secondary storage is not supported on AWS as there is a different approach to virtual disks.
This is also reason why you have to "convert" the virtual machine. On ESXi it obviously works

Taken from guide WiNG 5 Installation Guide: VX 9000 – Amazon EC2 Cloud

Thanks Ondrej. I had seen that note, does it mean you can add secondary storage before exporting from ESXi and it will work when it is imported into EC2?

Good point, it might work but I do not have resources (AWS) to test it...
