CPU Utilization

'show system utilization cpu'

The 'show system utilization cpu' command displays the CPU Utilization over varying intervals of time. Its data comes from etsysResourceUtilizationMIB.

This document provides background regarding the apparent order of magnitude difference between the command output and the MIB contents.

Shown here is an example output from a query of MIB branch etsysResourceUtilizationMIB=, with the displayed instances using the format "slot.cpu". etsysResourceCpuLoad5sec 1.1 value 13
etsysResourceCpuLoad5sec 2.1 value 13
etsysResourceCpuLoad1min 1.1 value 16
etsysResourceCpuLoad1min 2.1 value 18
etsysResourceCpuLoad5min 1.1 value 16
etsysResourceCpuLoad5min 2.1 value 17
Compare these data values to the output of a cli-based query issued around the same time: DFE Platinum(su)->show system utilization cpu

CPU Utilization Threshold Traps enabled: Threshold = 80.0%

Total CPU Utilization:

Slot CPU 5 sec 1 min 5 min
1 1 2.1% 1.6% 1.6%
2 1 1.3% 1.8% 1.7%
DFE Platinum(su)->
The MIB data values appear to be high by a factor of 10.

However, a review of the definitions of these three MIB OIDs reveals the following description: "SYNTAX Integer ( 0..1000 )". Each point thus represents a tenth of a percent, so that values 0-1000 are equivalent to percentages 0-100.
