Products
S-Series, firmware 7.01.03.0004 through 7.03.06.0004

Symptoms
The system logs "
code:
hot
" messages, then "
code:
normal
" messages a short time later.

Here is the syslog output ('
code:
show logging buffer
') - in ascending sequence - from an affected system:<163>Jun 15 10:41:14 10.21.31.2 System[3]Environmental temperature is hot.

==============================================================================[/code]
Cause
These are false positive readings, when no actual over-temp condition exists.

Solution/Workaround
Upgrade to firmware 7.11.01.0026 or higher.
Release notes state, in the '
code:
Firmware Changes and Enhancements
' section:
code:
Management

code:
Incorrect data read from the temperature sensor device may produce intermittent warning messages regarding environmental temperatures. Inaccurate warning messages similar to "
<
code:
3
>
code:
System[3]Environmental temperature is hot." may occur followed 10 seconds later by a messages similar to "
<
code:
3
>
code:
System[3]Environmental temperature is normal."

Pre-upgrade workaround:
Such rapidly-correcting "
code:
hot
" messages may be safely ignored.
Messages that do not appear to be self-correcting should be investigated further, by using the '
code:
show system hardware
' command to view the underlying board temperature readings (13189).
