Slow Support Site Downloads

Userlevel 2
Hi,
Can the bandwidth on the support site available for downloads be somehow increased. Even when you are at location that has large amounts of available bandwidth files don't seem to download much faster than 500Kbps.

Particularly when downloading the software updates this can take a large amount of time, when you are trying to address issues and didn't pre-download things, or when you have to be mobile and don't have a continuous connection for the several hours the downloads take.

Thank you

From Germany the usage of the extranet is really slow and uncomfortable, especially the case and license management.

Any update on the "content delivery network" which should solve this issue ????

Hi, I wanted to bump this again. Working at a customer site and ran into a case where we needed to upgrade again and there are new releases. The customer has plenty of bandwidth but our download speeds are still throttled to what is currently estimated as an hour. This is an issue for those of us in the field that don't always know what we are going to run into. Please take a look at doing something to fix this. Thank you

Hi Ben, we have finally rolled out the new CDN solution with the latest version of Netsight 6.2.0.221. Can you go to https://community.extremenetworks.com/extreme/topics/slow-support-site-downloads and try downloading again? Please let me know how it goes. Thanks for your patience!

Sorry. I pasted the wrong URL. Please use https://extranet.extremenetworks.com/downloads/Pages/NMS.aspx to download the 6.2.0.221 release of netsight.
Ben, I'm sorry. We know that this is an issue and have been working to resolve it. I'm hoping we will have a solution very soon. We'll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience.

Thank you, It is much appreciated.

Hi,
I wanted to bump this because it is still an issue. Because the downloads to so long, multiple hours often, they are much more likely to fail increasing the bandwidth consumed by you and us.

Is there any other input we can provide to help resolve this.

Hi Ben,
I felt your pain this morning myself while downloading Netsight. I can say that we are in the process of testing a new solution that will solve this problem. Unfortunately, I don't have a timeline to provide but am hoping to have more information to share within the next few months.

I'll see if I can get someone closer to this project to chime in...

It still takes 7-8 hours to download Netsight. This is really a big problem as we have ~250 Mbps bandwith.

All-

We are actively integrating a globally balanced content delivery network to resolve download access speeds around the world. We expect this to be live in our production download system by mid-June.

We'll update this post once everything is released to production.

Thanks for your Patience!

Woo! That sounds good. The downloads have been dreadful especially since the netsight upgrades are ~1.7GB

Hi All-

We've released our content delivery network changes to production, and are in the process of validating the changes. Over the course of the next 1-2 weeks, we'll begin pointing product links to the new filestore.

If you have particular products that you download often and would like to see repointed, respond here and we'll get those set up and let you know.

Thank you everyone, for your patience!

This improvement is targeted specifically to the SW Downloads on the Support Portal listed as follows:
The biggest pain point in Slow SW Downloads feedback came from this lot, so the improvement Marc just updated the community on comes as welcome news.

Said another way, there is no change to the SW Downloads from the other navigation branch on the Support Portal:
Long-term, we're committed to a consistent SW Download experience across all of our products. The behind the scenes to this solution is a huge step forward for us!

Like Marc said, if you have a bad experience downloading a specific SW file, please let us know! REF: http://support.extremenetworks.com

Hi,

I still can't download NMS suit at first try. Yesterday I started to download nac_appliance_64bit.6.2.0.211.iso, it said it will take 4-5 hours to download. This morning I saw it failed to complete the download. I restarted to download again. It says 4 hours (100-124 kb/s) to complete. This is a real pain.

Rahman-

That specific file had not been re-pointed to our CDN yet. We just completed that, so you should be able to log back in, refresh that screen and be able to download the file from our CDN.

Keep in mind that the first time a file is requested from a specific region, it comes from a CDN server in the northeast United States, and is cached on local servers. So, it may not be considerably faster until the 2nd download attempt.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Marc

Hi,

5.6 MB/s - 93.7 MB of 1.6 GB, 5 mins left

This is it. Also this is the first try to download via CDN and it is ~40x faster 🙂 Hope the remaining files and FW images also mirrored to CDN.

Thanks

Rahman

Its a bit of a work in progress to transfer all these files to the CDN.

However, on new releases like NetSight Suite 6.2.0.221 Ronald's referencing....they will start there.

Rahman, Are there any other specific files that you need to download now? As Ryan mentioned, it'll be a while before we get everything moved over to the new CDN but we're more than happy to add a file, or files, to the top of the list.
Thank you!
Wow it seem that realy works. Estimated download time for NetSight Suite 6.2.0.221 upgreade (1,76 Gb) - 25 min. Cool. At least 🙂

Fabulous. Thanks for sharing your experience Piotr.

We'll continue to expand this solution for all of our SW Downloads.

Onward and upward!

I'm glad to finally close the loop on this! A new CDN solution has been implemented, and as such, I'm going to close this thread for further comment.
