Bonjour Gateway Services not seen on APs other than BDD

Hi,

I have setup bonjour gateway on a test AP which shows expected bonjour services on the VLANs its connected to.

As a user connected to the AP on a different VLAN/SSID i can see those bonjour services and also when i move to other nearby AP i can still see those services.

However, when i move to different location and far away APs, i cannot see those services learnt by this Bonjour Gateway even though those AP show the gateway as their BDD.

Is there anything extra to be configured so that all APs in the hive can see/receive/advertise bonjour services learnt on BDD.

Are all APs on the same firmware/ the latest firmware version recommended?

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your response.

The Test AP is on an older firmware 6.5r8b whereas other APs are on newer 6.5r9/9a. We do have other AP models that are running newer firmware.

Does it make a difference if the APs are on different firmware?

I will Upgrade test AP to latest firmware.

We just want to make sure there aren't large differences in the firmware to make sure all traffic can flow both ways. We want to be on the latest firmware to make sure we have all possible bug fixes applied. Are you using HiveManager Classic or HiveManager (formerly NG)?

Hi,

I have upgraded the AP to latest version seems like not much difference.

If we don't take the users into account, what should be the output on neighbouring and other APs in the network. Should i be seeing services under remote on those APs acting as client.

Hi Sajid, thanks for getting those updated. If you run the following commands on the AP acting as the BDD you can see what services it is broadcasting:

show bonjour service local

show bonjour service mode

show bonjour vlan

show bonjour status

show bonjour service local | include <IP of device we are trying to reach>

For the APs that can't get the services but list that AP as their BDD, are they in the same subnet as the BDD? Or if you're going to a different building, do we have L2 access to the BDD? Can the AP ping the BDD?

Hi Sam,

I have run those commands which show the services as expected. However, those services are not seen on non-BDD APs, neither local nor remote.

All the APs are in the same management vlan and can ping each other.

Thanks for that info and checking that for us. Are we traversing any Layer 3 boundaries between the BDD and the APs? Those commands won't work on non-BDD APs, so those results are expected.

Additionally can you go to Configuration> Open the Network Policy> Edit Additional Settings in the Network policy> Edit the Hive you are using> Expand Optional Settings> Check the box next to "Modify Default Roaming Settings"> and confirm for me that the option to "update Hive members within radio range" is checked? If it's not, please check this and push an update to your APs to re-test.
