You'd need to log in as the super admin to add devices to the inventory. If you can send me your VHM ID, I can tell you the email addresses that might be super admins for your account. The VHM ID can be found by going to Help (top right hand corner)> About HiveManager.

The about hivemanager is only showing software version and build time. Also, my account is showing as "super user". not sure if that's the same as super admin.

Thank you for letting me know, that would mean you are using a Virtual Appliance or On Premises HiveManager, which unfortunately means I won't be able to see a list of admins for you. I would suggest trying to log in with the original user that was created when the HiveManager was created as they would have full access to all HiveManager functions.

I've tried logging in with this account and am getting the same results. It appears the accounts are listed in order they were created, and this is first on the list. My account is also in the same user group. Is there any way to know for sure who the original user was? Does that email address provide any clues?

John, I am on prem as well usually the access points would find hivemanager automatically which means you would not have to add devices. There is and unmanaged tab right above device inventory you can click. After that click device inventory and you should see and add option now. I don't have the add option either when I have the manage devices tab selected either.

Ok. So that's what I was missing. I am seeing the Add option under unmanaged devices.

My problem now is why are they going to redirector without finding the on prem hive. I can ping the hostname or IP of the onprem hive which leads me to believe DNS is properly configured, but I didn't set this up initially so it's still possible I'm missing something there.

Not sure if it provides any clues, but when I boot up an AP, it bounces between 0.0.0.0 and 54.172.0.252 as the CAPWAP server IP.

I can then run the command - capwap client server name "ip address of my on prem hivemanager" -

At this point the ap reboots.

I then have to rerun the above command, at which point it finds its way to hivemanager.

I booted up a new AP and ran wireshark and it looks like my access point made a DNS query for hivemanager.mydomain and redirector.aerohive.com both returned the ip address of my hivemanager.

I followed suit, and looked at the wireshark dns packets. This clue let me to find out the APs aren't all in the same DNS zone, and there weren't consistent A records in each zone. Thanks again for your time and help in resolving this.
