Thank you for letting us know, we are currently working on our Maps to get those stabilized. In the mean time, if you could send me tech data from an AP that is having connectivity issues, I can take a look and let you know what we're seeing. My direct email is communityhelp@aerohive.com. If you can let me know which HiveManager platform you are using, I can give you instructions on downloading tech data; HiveManager (formerly NG, cloud.aerohive.com) or HiveManager Classic (myhive.aerohive.com).

Thanks Sam. The map function is pretty much useless at this point. Is there anything we can do to correct this on our end? Would our loss of the mapping function be indicative of widespread issues in our hive?

We are running HiveManager Classic. Please send me instructions for downloading tech data.

I believe the maps issue is going to be server based, so we could try a server move to see if we can get those stabilized. We'd want to make a technical support case to get the server move scheduled, would you be able to make a case and let me know the case number? I can take ownership of the case and get the server move scheduled for you if you'd like to try that.

I can also check for failing reporting files coming from the AP in the tech data, which could affect some map features as well. To get tech data, we'd want to go to Monitor> Check the box next to the AP> Utilities> Get tech data.

Thanks Sam, I am concerned that the Mapping function isn't working properly, as I was attempting to use it for troubleshooting. At this point though, I am more concerned about an area of our building with erratic wireless connectivity. This could involve up to 6 APs. I know from past experience, that the inability for users to connect to the AP in their classroom can be caused by an AP in an adjacent room. When the adjacent AP is disconnected, the original AP works as it should. I've attached the tech data for the 6 APs in that end of the building.

As for moving the server, I have concerns about doing this right now. What will our hive look like after the move? Will we need to do much reconfiguration? I think I would like to wait until Winter break to do that.

Thank you very much for those tech data files, I've sent you an email with some detailed feedback but I wanted to keep this thread updated as well in case anyone else has similar issues.

The commands I checked in the tech data were:

show acsp neighbor

show interface wifi0

show interface wifi0 _count

show interface wifi1

show interface wifi1 _count

What I found:

show acsp neighbor showed some neighboring APs that were too loud (RSSI value of -50's, we want this to be -75 -> -100, closer to 0 means a louder signal, more damage).

The show interface commands showed wifi0 has some significant CRC interference in some places. For CRC errors we want to make sure we're avoiding metal, glass, or water near the AP as much as possible.

As for the server move, we can certainly wait for winter break, that is not an issue. If you are not on the latest version, we'd want to get you updated but in general the HiveManager will remain the same and all of your configuration items will come over with you and remain functional. The only downside to the server move is that there will be a brief amount of time during the server move where you wouldn't be able to log in to the HiveManager. However, your network will remain up and active so your end user clients won't be disconnected at all. Just let us know when you'd like to schedule this and we'll set that up for you.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Busy times! I will send pictures along shortly, but do have questions about troubleshooting the 'loud neighbors'. The tech data output only lists the Bssid, and I can't find a way to cross reference that with serial number or mac address. Without that, how can we identify the offending AP?

No worries at all, good to hear from you again! The BSSID is most of the MAC address of the AP, with the last couple characters changed from the APs MAC address to distinguish a unique address for that particular interface. So if you can find the AP that has the same starting MAC address as the BSSID, you can tell that the interface in question (each interface from the AP has it's own BSSID) is coming from that AP. Hope that helps!

It does help, somewhat. But when I look at the logs that I sent to you, the very first ones listed in the neighbor list are e01c 4115 53d4 and e01c 4115 53d5. well I have 4 different access points that begin with e01c 4115 53. So I never actually get around to troubleshooting the problem, I spend tons of time just figuring out which APs are actually having or causing the issues. How hard would it be to just add another column and include the serial number, or even the host name? I've been asking this same question for years!

Thank you for those pictures, the deployments look to be perfect for the environment so I don't think the CRC failures are going to be caused by your environment (there are some factors in the rooms that will cause some inevitable signal damage, such as the projector or the metal poles, however they aren't right next to the AP so I don't think they are our main issue).

The map was also very helpful, the APs do seem to be all stacked close together. Could you tell me what power level these APs are at currently? You should be able to see that on the Monitor tab of the HiveManager.

For the second floor especially, with that dense of an AP deployment, we might want to bring the power down to 4-5 to start with (some similar deployments with an AP in almost every room have gone as low as 1-2 for the power level, so as not to overlap signals). However, I usually recommend only changing the power by 2dBm per test, so we aren't causing drastic fluctuations in coverage in a production environment.

Here are the power levels. Based on what you have indicated, they seem pretty high. I'm happy to make adjustments, but am not sure of the best way to go about it.

Thanks for your continued help with this.

12/5

Power WiFi 0 WiFi 1

RUHS

124 13	20

128 12	20

151 11	20

155 5	12

216 10	12

218 11	20

220 5	12

227 10	12

229 10	12

Thanks for letting me know those power levels. Those are higher than we'd like. I normally recommend adjusting the power down by 2dBm per test, pushing that out to the APs, letting them run for an hour as normal, then getting new tech data to check the progress. If you want to send me the tech data again I can let you know what we're seeing.

Just to be clear, on these APs, the power level for WiFi 0, and WiFi 1 are set to 'Auto'. You would like me to manually set WiFi 0 and 1 for each AP to a level that is 2dBm lower than where they currently are via the 'Auto' setting?
