How to improve wireless reliabilty and network speeds? Getting stuck at 4 - 20 mbps

My wifi speeds are very unreliable and slow. I had no problems whatsoever with my old netgear R7000, and these two aerohive ap150w are not delivering anything but hassle exept on the wired connections (which could be achieved bij any $10 switch). So the interference here in the city is high because of the neigbours, but my other equipment outperforms the aerohives by a factor of 100 or more. If i click the ? at the right side of the screen; there is talk of options like mimo or VHT, which is nowhere to be found in my hivemanager interface.
