AP120 updates from 4.1r3

I have just inherited 2 AP120's AP for testing purposes. I have set them up at home (on my own network) but the firmware is out of date by a long margin.

Currently, the OS is 4.1r3 and this needs to be updated to the latest version as of Nov 2019.

Can someone point me in the right direction for update to this firmware.

You would need to purchase some level of support from Aerohive to have access to the download files in Hive Community. Otherwise, once you get the devices up to 6.5r3 minimum, you can update the firmware via the HiveManager GUI instead. If you have purchases support and can send me the sales order at communityhelp@aerohive.com, I can enable the proper access for you.

The files are named AP110-120-6.1r6a.img.S when downloaded, is this correct as they don't seem to be updating the AP via the WEB UI as per the instructions.

Those are the files you'll need the AP110 and 120 share the same firmware line. Can you try updating via CLI?

Hi Sam,

WebUI: just times out and goes back to login screen - no error showing

SSH: Image header magic wrong! - The format of the image is incorrect!

I have inadvertently deleted an AP from my account can this be restored from your side?? 12012030700150.

Also the links you sent, I download and upload to the IP address, as per image attached. Just checking i am doing this correctly...

And that screen shot looks like you are doing that correctly. Is the image taking a long time to download?

Yes, the website is timing out..and going back to the login screen.. That's why i wanted to check that how I was working was correct...

Tried SSH with 4.1r5 still getting Image header magic wrong etc.

Reset the device to default, tried again got the same result. Maybe the AP is no longer working correctly.

It does sound like this AP may not be working any more. Unfortunately the AP120 has reached end of life/support so we can't replace it for you.

2 quick questions

1) AP states it's already onboarded but i cannot locate in the dashboard

2) save image tftp://192.168.1.169:/tmp/AP110-120-4.1r5.img.S is this the correct format - IP address is my pc and the location of file is in C:/tmp folder. this is what I used in SSH. Not too experienced with terminal scripts.

I'm not seeing any duplicate records on our side that would usually cause that on-boarding error, so we would usually need to file a case to get that resolved. However given the other issues we're seeing, I'm not sure that would help much. For the file path, I might take out the ":" right after your IP address but you should be able to copy the file path directly from the FTP server you're using to be sure it is correct.

Hi Sam,

Just to let you know, I finally figured this out.

I downloaded another tftp server and got both AP's to update to the golden version via the CLI.

The other AP had the incorrect S/N. These AP's had never been used, so I took the S/N off the boxes, but the boxes were sealed so S/N on the product was different.

Hi Sam, I know the device is out of date, but I am trying to update a AP120 from FW ver 6.2r1c. The device is failing to update with a message "The Aerohive device was unable to save the image to flash memory".
