Are you making changes to the template that are not being applied? If so, what changes are you making?

Basically.

If you make a change to a switch template, You can't push that delta change to the switch.

So templates are only good for a new switch with the template applied first.

Subsequent changes in the template do not get reflected on the switch config.

To try and get round this, i thought if i added the switch to a new network policy (with a different switch template) then the new network policy should deliver the new settings with the new switch template.

However, this doesn't happen. The policy changes but the switch template stays the same.

So whats really the point of switch templates apart from to apply to a new or default settings switch.

Not all changes can be applied through a delta configuration, this option is for smaller changes that wouldn't require a reboot of the device. Have you tried pushing out template changes as complete configuration updates, at a time when you can have the device reboot?

Any changes big or small made to the Switch Template are not pushed to the device. You have to manually go to the switch and modify the settings / ports, VLAN etc.

Try it

Thanks for confirming that for me, I was able to test this in my lab and I can push out template changes to a SR2348P. Would you be able to open a technical support case and let me know the case number so I can update them with my lab results? If you'd rather email me directly, my address is communityhelp@aerohive.com.

We use templates with classification on our 2300s. How have you classified the template to match this particular switch? Are you using the default 2348 template?

Try creating a new template, name it after the switch, i.e. hq-switch1, modify the ports, etc. and save the template. Next, set the device classification to match the switch, we use the device name & IP address.

Make sure connection to HiveManager is maintained throughout the push.

Another consideration...If there are changes at the device level, they will override the template. Can you be more specific as to the type of changes you have attempted?

BJ, you said "If there are changes at the device level, they will override the template."

Is this the same for all device in HiveManager? If so, is there any way to override that, and have the network policy or device template wipe out all manual configurations, aside from completely resetting the device?
