I have a HiveManager Connect account and have twelve AP121s. Five of them are stuck on HiveOS 6.4r1d. When I upgrade HiveOS it displays a "Device Update Failed" regardless of HiveOS version I choose.

Can someone please point me to the right direction please? Is there a way to get the appropriate .img file so I can do a manual update of the firmware?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reaching out, I've emailed you directly with the files you'll need and a guide that reviews how to update device firmware via the Web UI instead of the HiveManager GUI. You'll need to update the devices to 6.5r3 minimum to manage them in HiveManager.

Thanks for sending the links and making the necessary files available. I've downloaded the files, but unfortunately I can not connect to the Web UI of these devices. When I try, I get an error message stating:
10.0.0.27 uses an unsupported protocol.
ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
Unsupported protocol
The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite.
I've tried to connect in Chrome, EDGE, and IE11, all with a similar result.
These devices all have red circles with an X in it and the notation "Device Update Failed".
I'm wondering if there is a set of CLI commands that would work thru a serial connection in PuTTY by which I could accomplish the updates.
I will be on vacation and unable to further respond for a couple of weeks, but would appreciate any further help you can give.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure that when you try and connect you use http://[ip] rather than just going direct on the IP address.

You will get a message about NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID but you can just go advanced and then proceed (chrome)

Ashley is correct, you just want to remove the "s" from the https part of the URL to get around that security warning. Also, this guide reviews how to update the firmware via the APs CLI in case that's easier for you: https://thehivecommunity.aerohive.com/s/article/Updating-HiveOS-from-CLI-using-SCP-TFTP-or-HTTP-s

The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite, and due to that, you are facing the error issue ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH, so for the solution, you can check out the helpful guide at:- https://certera.com/kb/how-to-fix-the-err_ssl_version_or_cipher_mismatch-error/.

This issue usually happens when the AP121s are running an older HiveOS version that can’t properly communicate with the newer HiveManager update process. The best way to fix it is to manually upgrade the firmware using the CLI. Connect to the AP via SSH or console, log in, and use the command upgrade ftp://<your_ftp_server>/<firmware_file.img> or upgrade tftp://<server>/<firmware_file.img>. Make sure you’re using a HiveOS version that’s compatible with AP121—usually something like 6.5r3 or 6.6r2 works fine.

You can request the correct .img firmware file from Extreme Networks support or find it in their download portal under the legacy Aerohive section. After uploading and flashing the image manually, reboot the AP and it should reconnect to https://minecrraftapk.com/ . Once it’s back online, you can continue upgrading from there through the normal process.
