Hello, you'd want to talk to your Sales Engineer to request this service. It is a paid service, but I don't have pricing information unfortunately.

In general, you'd need to register for an NG instance (cloud.aerohive.com> Register), build your configuration in NG, move your licenses over (support will need to help with this), then move your APs over. You can technically do these steps in any order you'd like, but this order helps minimize downtime for your network.

Here's a doc you definitely want:

http://docs.aerohive.com/330000/docs/guides/Aerohive_HiveManagerNG-Migration.pdf?_ga=2.234056670.1329224720.1526344440-454282283.1511914886

As someone currently migrating devices from Classic to NG, here's some "big picture" items - a 10,000 foot view - let's call this Things I Wish I'd Understood Better Beforehand:

Apparently, you can just go into to Classic's license key management interface, list all the keys you have in Classic, and go apply those same keys into NG; I copied my licenses into NG in about 30 seconds this way without involving support.

You're basically just going to pretend like you're building your network from the ground up again, but in NG (so you're gonna want to go figure that out), then migrate the devices from Classic to NG one or more at a time.

The summarized process of actually 'moving' a device to another HiveManager goes like this:

Establish an SSH connection to the device + write down the IP address and HiveManager password to connect to it - this isn't required but you will kick yourself later when you mess up and you can't remember the device IP and it's not in HM because you just deleted it

Write down the device serial number

Change the CAPWAP redirector to redirector.aerohive.com, either via CLI (make sure to save changes) or via HiveManager+config push

Once the configuration is committed to the device, schedule a reboot of the device for several minutes in the future, giving you time to do the next few steps BEFORE IT REBOOTS (<--- this part is important):

Remove the device from HiveManager Classic by deleting it from the inventory

Add the device to HiveManager NG using the serial number + network policy

The device will boot up, contact redirector.aerohive.com, and be told to connect to HiveManager NG

Tips:

Create a device template for each type of device you have, before you get started. For example, the switch templates for my SR2324 and SR2348 switches specifies that the 4 10G ports have trunking enabled, STP is enabled, on all ports, and ports 1-24 (or 48) are end-user ports.

application stop hiveagent + application start hiveagent are CLI commands (for Nimitz-based devices such as the SR23xx switches) that can restart the hivemanager agent running on the device - after being disconnected from the 'net for a few days, our HM agent gave up trying, and this reconnected it to the hive without restarting the switch.

For a clearer understanding of all the 'redirector' business, check out the last 2 pages of the PDF I linked above, it explains the various ways that Aerohive devices can locate their HiveManager;

This was good info, and working on this for a customer, but I'm finding my old hivemanager instance is missing the device inventory button to export the CSV of the AP details from the directions, and can't seem to find anything comparable. Any thoughts where to produce the export of the devices from now?

I have no idea why yours doesn' t have the button, here's my old hivemanager

2. I would suggest using the Copytables extension for Chrome to copy the table data instead, but that doesn't get you much further..... missing the Device Inventory button means you also don't have a "remove" option to remove the devices from inventory, so you need to get this fixed before you can proceed

Well that's confidence inspiring in the platform. I have touched aerohive periodically, so don't not the granular differences like this, but seems I'm running an out of date or irregular version of even the old hivemanager - not sure how that happens in a cloud managed environment.

I'd really like to just move on, but seems we'll have to do this the hard way of importing the ap's and renaming them.

If you don't see the device inventory that usually means you aren't logged in as the super user (a good way to check is to see if you can enter entitlement keys, if you can, you are a super admin).

Another work around would be to do a configuration export from classic and import it in to HiveManager (formerly NG), this will bring your device inventory and maps over for you in to NG.

He will need device inventory permissions (needed both for export and for removing devices from the hive) in order to remove the devices from the hive so they can be added to his new NG hivemanager, so your best route right now is to get super user priveliges or you are going to be dead in the water during the migration anyway.

Interesting - yeah I can't add any entitlements, and seems I have "Configuration and Monitoring" rights only. I'll ping the site admin and have him elevate me at least for the time being. Seems that gave me most everything else for perms, didn't think it wouldn't let me export inventories...

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

If you actually followed the guide and exported your inventory (page 8, "click Device Inventory > Export to export a list of the selected devices as a .csv file") like it says, then you do have a list of your devices and their serial numbers.

If you don't actually read the guide and follow the instructions then yeah, you're going to have a bad time.

I did EXACTLY what was in the Doc and the export did not have the serial #’s in the CVS export and I had to open a ticket and MANUALLY add them to NG.

The DOC is wrong because it does not tell your to MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SERIAL #s.

Buyer be ware if you use this doc

I just went to HiveManager Classic interface and exported all 5 remaining devices to CSV. The serial numbers of the device are in the first column; here are the column headers:

//Serial Number,Node ID,Host Name,Device Model,Device Function,Network Policy,Location,Static IP Address,Netmask,Default Gateway,Topology Map,Country Code,Wifi0 Radio Profile,Wifi0 Admin State,Wifi0 Operation Mode,Wifi0 Channel,Wifi0 Power,Wifi1 Radio Profile,Wifi1 Admin State,Wifi1 Operation Mode,Wifi1 Channel,Wifi1 Power,HiveOS,TAG1,TAG2,TAG3,VHM Name

If you opened the CSV in Excel, you might see the serial number converted to e.g. "1.00151+13" instead of 10015093342, but it is shown correctly in Notepad

Hope this helps! 🙂

Unfortunately we don't have one specifically for an on premises migration, but I'll see if we can get one made for you. In the mean time, I would suggest following the HMNG on premises quick start guide, and then in the updated guide I posted above, skip step 1, then follow steps 2 and 3 as they should still apply to an on premises deployment.
