Additional information for my question:

I should be able to do this with a csv file in the add device section, but cannot find any information about how to format the csv file. Years ago there was a sample file on that page, but it is no longer there. A lot of posts online ask about this but I have not been able to find a definitive answer.

With api's is not possible and I also don't know any option to do this with csv

Thanks Keith, that is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work anymore. I know it worked a few years ago. I think this link may be a more recent version of the documentation for adding devices via csv.

Since there are no dates on the documentation it is impossible to tell which one is more recent. If the link I listed is correct, it doesn't seem like it is possible to set the hostname or any other settings anymore when adding new devices. It seems to only add the device to the system now. All of the other settings can be taken care of via Network Policy and Device Profiles, but I can't figure out how to name the devices without going into each device and manually changing the name of each. That's not a very good option when you have hundreds of APs to deal with. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

Derek, I would try to see if you could do a .csv export of a device already in Hivemananger to get the formatting correct. The link Keith shared it similar to how I bulk added devices on classic except for I think they added a field for SDR in 8.2r2. I was trying to do and export myself of one device but, I don't think that is an option I selected one device and hit the download button and it is taking forever. I also have 6,600 devices so I don't know what I am going to get. I am interested to figure this out as well because if I ever move to Hivemanager online I will be bulk adding many devices as I replace them.

Thanks for the suggestion Dennis. I forgot to mention that I tried that before posting my question here. It did not work and that kind of makes sense to me because there were a lot of fields in the export that would be irrelevant to on boarding a new device. The only thing I've been able to get working is to list a singe field with serial numbers in the csv. When ever I add another field it fails. Even if I add the model number in the second field like it says in the link I listed above, it fails. I've tried many combinations including all the suggestions here:

I'm not sure what else to try next. I'll keep digging.

Derek, I reread the help link and it concerns me. It looks to me like you can only input the serial number and the model. On top that your telling me we can't even get this to work. I am going to look at this some more because personally I need to be able the add serial, hostname, and static ip address information in bulk. I usually add 100 or more devices at a time and static IP address all of them. There is no way I want to do this one device at a time.

Where you able to find out how to use a CSV file to import AP's? I have tried all the sample/test files as well and they all state 0 of 0 devices were successfully imported.

The .csv import does not work like it use to in Classic. I spoke with my sales rep in FL he said that they are going to work on adding it soon hopefully. I use this feature a lot so hopefully it will not take long until then I am sticking with classic.

I am curious if you were able to figure this out? I am also in need of the ability to import 100+ APs with name, location and profile, etc. The only way I can get the csv to even process is with only serial numbers. Would prefer to do this via an API, so I can automate this task, but this functionality is not present in the current iteration of the API. I have a case opened but nothing from support yet but the previous suggestion of exporting the inventory and using that as a template, which doesn't work.

I opened a case with Aerohive support and after a couple of support engineers getting into our system to try the import feature- I received the following answer.

"This behavior is reproduceable it seems and so we are currently investigating the root cause to determine if there may be an immediate workaround or if dev intervention will be required to fix this."

They offered to assist with manually entering the AP's in the meantime. However - I want to make sure that those devices are in the correct policy/groups/locations - so we opted to manually enter 100+ AP's.

Sure would be a nice feature to have using to bulk upload. It did not work in 2017 and I was hoping they would have it developed in 2019.

Well.... that's pretty unacceptable. I'll continue to escalate my case to the developers then, 2 years of sitting on what I would consider table takes functionality is not ok.

Chris, i agree with you its crazy. Per my post above they are going to be fast tracking this feature request. I informed aerohive I would not be making a large purchase on AP650s unless this feature and a couple other things were corrected and the listened. If I get a timeline from them I will let you guys know i am expecting this will be fixed in a few months.

Dennis - That's great news! I'll rattle the chains on my side as well. I have a case opened already with them and am pushing to get to a developer. Hopefully we'll see some quick turn around on some API development.

I'm just really surprised no ones called this out until now? ... all that clicking to get even one added and renamed with some basic policy, it just so much wasted time.

Keep us updated on progress and I'll do the same.

It looks like in the latest upgrade to Hivemanager they added this feature. It is pretty similar to Classic and should get the job done. There is also and example template. If they only had a way to export access points into the same format.
