If you are referring to the way to create many users all at once by entering a prefix that will be given to all users created in that batch (was was called "Automatically generated private PSK user" in HiveManager Classic), you can find that by going in to HiveManager> Configure> Users> Users> Bulk Create. Here you can choose the user group you want to add them to, set the prefix that will be at the front of each user name followed by unique numbers for each user, the number of users you want to create in this batch, and the email address to send the list of new users to for your records and distribution. Is that what you are looking for?

No we're not looking to bulk create.

The threads we've been looking at show auto creation on timeframes etc and then e-mail/SMS to people.

We'd like to autocreate a PPSK for each calendar day, one after the other.

We've found loads of threads on doing this in the community, however I cannot find the feature in our Hivemanager NG Onprem.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this, I just wanted to confirm what I was finding before I gave you an answer. Unfortunately there is no way to create PPSK credentials via automation on a continuing basis in HiveManager (formerly NG) On Premises. I would recommend contacting your sales engineer to request that this feature be added to the HiveManager platform.

Is this an intentional oversight between platforms. As a partner of Aerohive we've been promised many times over that there are little to no differences between online and on-prem for those that need it.

This is deeply concerning as features are written about, in help guides, forums etc. with little clarity around those who can/can not use a feature.

This isn't so much a difference between online and on prem (which do have very little differences between them), but more so a difference between HiveManager (formerly NG) and HiveManager Classic, which do not have an exact feature match. A majority of our help guides indicate in the title or the description if the guide is for HiveManager or HiveManager Classic, but I can't say the same for older community posts.

So whats the difference of even those. To us we get two ordering options 1) Online Hivemanager NG or 2) Hivemanager NG on-prem. We've had no communication through the channel on what "Classic" is. Which is the one we need to have for rotating PPSK? Is Classic simply renamed Aerohive Connect?

HiveManager (formerly NG) has two versions, Select and Connect. Select is the full feature version of HiveManager and requires entitlement keys to use, where as Connect is a limited feature version of HiveManager and does not require entitlement keys. Select is available as an Online platform or an On Premises platform, Connect is online only.

HiveManager Classic is a different system than HiveManager (formerly NG). This also comes in an online or On Premises version, and requires an entitlement key. This is our legacy platform, and will not be supported forever. Eventually (no known date) this platform will not be supported, and you will need to move to HiveManager.

HiveManager Classic does allow you to have rotating PPSK credentials, but as I've said this platform will not be supported forever, so you can use this for the time being but eventually you would have to move to HiveManager. I would suggest contacting your Aerohive account manager and requesting this feature be added to HiveManager.

Will this version get the rotating PPSK feature sometime? is there a known timeframe?

HiveManager Connect doesn't support some of the more advanced enterprise level networking options, such as PPSK. You can make a PSK, Open, or External Radius SSID with HiveManager Connect. In order to use the PPSK feature, you would need to upgrade to Select and purchase entitlement keys.

I would recommend you reach out to your account manager to make a feature request to have that automatic PPSK option added to HiveManager (formerly NG), if you are planning on going to Select.

Hi Sam, I thought I was clear, then I got my Select and Connect's mixed up. We're not using the Connect product, every AP we sell is on Select. For this Q our customer is on-prem Select and would love the feature for rotating PPSK. Why is there a difference? is there a matrix of the full set of differences between on-prem and cloud for these types of features.

PS. Aerohive partner Q's for some reason push us to use these forums for answers when we login.

Hi Michael, no worries, it's easy to get them mixed up. Again though, this isn't a difference between on prem and online, this is a difference between HiveManager Classic and HiveManager (formerly NG). These are completely separate platforms and do not have a full feature match. If they are interested in going to HiveManager Classic on prem, that is still an option, but eventually they will need to move to HiveManager (formerly NG), and only HiveManager will receive new features sets from here on out. I would recommend submitting a feature request for rotating PPSKs in HiveManager via your account manager so we can get this feature added to the current platform for you.

I find it very weird that you all have a product (Classic) that you plan on discontinuing for NG but don't have any real documentation on how to migrate from one system to another (please don't mention that lackluster "how- to", you all have online, that only shows how to migrate AP and CAPWAP information). You also don't have a tool (that you will allow the public to use) available as of yet. But what you DO have, is Migration Assistance, for a fee. Wow.

I hope this is rectified prior to your ending support for Aerohive Classic. If the only benefit to not researching a possibly better WiFi solution, is the fact I won't have to replace AP's, I can assure you I'll be researching other solutions.

The how-to guide should cover registration, migrating entitlement keys, importing backups from Classic to NG, and then how to migrate and capwap the APs. Could you tell me what you'd like to see added to the migration guide to make it more functional for you and others?
