Hi Frank, I was able to find this procedure for password recovery on an Exterasys XSR-1805:

Connect a Laptop or PC COM port to the Console port of the routing using a NULL Modem cable

Configure the Laptop or PC Ethernet port with IP address, mask, etc. Use the PC's IP address for the Gateway.

Connect a crossover Ethernet cable between the Laptop or PC Ethernet NIC and Fast Ethernet 1 (XSR-18xx) or Gigabit Ethernet 3 (XSR-3xxx) on the router.

Run a terminal emulation software application on the PC such as Hyperterm or Teraterm, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, one stop bit, no parity, X-on/X-off flow control.

Run a TFTP server on the laptop or PC.

Reboot the router by turning the power switch off, waiting at least 5 seconds, then turning it back on.

Within the first five seconds of boot up (when product identifying splash appears) hit Control-C to enter BootROM Monitor Mode.

Log in to the BootROM monitor mode with known password (or if the password has not been configured just hit enter.)

Verify network parameters (IP address, gateway, Remote (TFTP server) IP address, etc.) using "sn" (show network) command. Modify as required using "np" (network parameters) command.

Transfer the startup-config file to the Laptop or PC using "ns" (network send) command.

XSR: ns startup-config

Open the file saved on the Laptop or PC using MS Word or Wordpad or other suitable text editor.

Delete the line that configures the admin username and password, and any and all other lines that define users and passwords then save the edited file.

TFTP the edited file back to the router using the "ng" (network get) command.

XSR: ng startup-config

Reboot the router from the BootRom Monitor Mode command line using the "bw" (boot warm) or "bc" (boot cold) command.

Log in to the command line interface using the default username "admin" and just hit enter when asked for the password.

Reset the admin password to a desired value to maintain secure protection of the router's configuration using the configure mode command "username".

If the BootROM monitor Mode password is not known then the only way to recover is to restore the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Please note: Restoring factory defaults complete erases any and all configuration files saved in the flash directory on the router, including the Crypto Master Key. The operating system file (XSR1800.fls or XSR3000.fls) is not erased.

Hope that helps!
