And guess what, I just happened to be looking at an AP1130 to troubleshoot it, and BAM... there is a firmware update for them!

WHAT!? Yeah, 10.6r1a

Never got an email, no notification on the dashboard, nothing...... After all the battling back and forth, no one the knowing what was going on with the support of that model, being told yeah its supported to finally no its not supported, then that document mysteriously changing from supported to not supported (with an End Of Life statement making its way into the same document), and by sheer luck i stumble on the fact there is a firmware update... This is not great.

Here is a screenshot of the firmware notice:

Maybe this will fix a lot of the bugs and issues ive seen with that model... also, has an "a" at the end, so there may be more updates...... we will see.

Did anyone else get any kind of notification about the new firmware update for those AP's, im just curious if they just missed me, or forgot to tell their customers.

Thanks,

Jason.

AP1130 and AP650(AH) firmware divergence?

I noticed that firmware for the AP650(AH) is out, with the new version being 10.5.4.0.

I updated a few of the AP's that had zero clients, startign on my AP650(ah)'s, and then went to update the firmware on the AP1130's. thats when i noticed that 10.5.4.0 wasnt an option, only the previous version 10.5.3.0.

Whats going on? since ive had this system (since Aerohive) its been the same firmware for the AP650's as it has for the AP1130's.

Dont tell me that the firmware is going to start to diverge based on the model of AP... please dont tell me that.... not a good idea..

Anyway, im interested why the latest isnt available for the AP1130's, anyone?

Yup, thats what i thought, but the latest firmware is not available for the AP1130's.

here shows the 10.5.x.x versions available for the AP1130:

only 10.5.r1 & r2 & r3. not .r4

Selecting only one AP, then using the install latest firmware (which auto-selects the latest) shows only the 10.5.3.0 version, here:

So unless its being held longer in QA, i have no idea why it isnt availabel for the AP1130's.

Thanks, Jason.

Well i tried again this morning, and updated a few AP650(ah)'s to 10.5.4.0 without any issue, it shows up in the "upgrade to latest version", as well as showing up in the dropdown list.

I then selected a single AP1130, and "upgrade to latest" shows 10.5.3.0, and the same for the dropdown. Here is a picture of that:

Im going to give it until the end of the week, and then ill create a GTAC ticket if its still not allowing the latest firmware.
Jason.

Well ive opened a GTAC ticket for this, as its still showing only the previous firmware and not the latest. So odd. Ive tried everything from reboots, to reverting back to template defaults, and nothing has changed. Has anyone else got AP1130's that dont give the latest firmware as an option?

I might have an answer to my problem. I think their documentation about the 10.5.4.0 firmware being compatible with AP1130's is wrong. I went into the AP template for the AP1130, and it states that 10.5.3.0 is the current firmware for the AP1130. A picture of that, highlighted in yellow shows what I mean. See below, thanks, J:

I apologize about the inconvenience."

What's crazy, is that not only do the release notes for 10.5.4.0 say AP1130's are included, but in checking the release notes for the "brand new" 10.5.5.0 firmware, that also says its available for AP1130's. Someone is messing up bigtime on their documentation. Although i didnt like the part of GTAC's reply that said "I believe this may", i like black and white, it is or it isnt. But if I/we take it at face value, 10.5.3.0 is the latest firmware for AP1130's.

Thanks, Jason.

I just got another update, and here is is:

"it has been determined that 10.5r4 and 10.5r5 should be supported for the 1130. We are currently in the process of bringing this up with engineering. "

So, it appears something else is going on which is causing the AP1130's to not "see" either of the last two firmware updates.

If/when that changes, ill post back.

Thanks, Jason.

I prodded and got this reply:

I cant accept that, it has to be official. So my reply to that was:

"I think the best way to move forward is to get a formal acknowledgement either way, that firmware after 10.5.3.0 is or is not available for the AP1130's. Because as it stands today - i re-checked just now - the documentation for 10.5.4.0 and 10.5.5.0 states the AP1130's are included, and also the End of Life on those AP's isnt until sometime after June of 2025. so i think the mistake is in the programming/delivery of the firmware and not a documentation error. I would recommend formally escalating this internally either through your manager and in turn they escalate it to Extreme's development team, or alternatively escalate it to whomever is in charge of the firmware and its roll-out. It needs to be official whether it is or is not for the AP1130's, and I find it impossible to believe they are not included"

I know there is a "button" to have a management review of the ticket, but i wonder if that will do anything or not. Any suggestions @daniel1

- Jason

Well, prepare to be pissed. Oh, and I couldnt get a "why" out of them, only this:

"I was able to get clarification today regarding this. Official word from PLM is that that 10.5r4 and 10.5r5 are not going to be supported by the 1130 and it has been requested to close the internal case with engineering as well."

What bull-crap. I requested a management review, and will also bring our Extreme rep into this. So even internally they screwed up, as evidenced by both newer release notes saying AP1130's are included. Im SO pissed right now.

@daniel1 you showed that the AP1130's still have almost 2 years before EOL... how the hell can they not support future firmware for those AP's.. what about security updates, as im sure there will be other vulnerabilities! insane

Well, they just updated their documentation (now i understand why i was left hanging for almost 2 weeks, gave time to update that):

Not happy. Customer last to know, and only knows because they had to create a support case.

-Jason.
