topic How to obtain client capabilities through XIQ/CLI? in ExtremeCloud IQ

I've scoured through the ExtremeCloud IQ and XIQ forums but didn't find an answer.

Is there a way in the CLI to obtain clients' maximum capabilities and current connection capabilities? Network 360 Monitor shows attributes such as Supported Bandwidth, Spatial Stream, and 802.11 Standard but show station doesn't. I tried to enable data-collection but show client-info-collection always returns No client info yet.

Average RSSI/SNR in each ExtremeCloud IQ Client's panel doesn't match the Pow(SNR) column from show station. Am I looking at the correct place in the CLI?

Unfortunately, no CLI displays the information ' clients' maximum capabilities and current connection capabilities', you will need to use the GUI Network 360.

Hi,

This is expected. The CLI on Extreme devices is intentionally limited when it comes to detailed client capability visibility. That is exactly why ExtremeCloud IQ exists. Advanced client telemetry such as maximum supported bandwidth, spatial streams, 802.11 standard, and historical RSSI/SNR values are collected, processed, and normalized by XIQ, not exposed in full detail through the local CLI.

Commands like show station are mainly intended for real-time operational troubleshooting and will only show a subset of information about the current association. They do not expose the full client capability database that you see in Network 360 or the XIQ client panels. The client-info-collection feature depends on cloud-side processing and timing, so it is normal for it to return “No client info yet” from the CLI.

Also, the RSSI/SNR values shown in XIQ are averaged and calculated over time, while the values in show station reflect instantaneous measurements taken at that moment. Because of this, they are not expected to match exactly.

If you need to extract or integrate this type of information outside of XIQ, the supported approach is to use SNMP. SNMP allows you to collect client-related metrics that are exposed by the device MIBs, but even then, the level of detail will still be less than what XIQ provides natively.

So in short, what you are seeing is by design: the CLI is limited, XIQ is the authoritative source for client capabilities, and SNMP is the only viable option if you need to collect some of this data programmatically.

Best regards,
Luis
Greetings from Brazil
