i am unable to generate a new alarm which i configured for a specific device /IP port /link failure alarm through edit critetia in the alarm manager configuration

i am just using the option of By custom criteria .all the defaults alarms from this switch are working.

OK, does the switch sent the trap = could you see the trap in Netsight Console in the "Traps" tab in the lower part of the window.

Doubleclick the trap and please attach a screenshot of the trap so we'd make sure that the custom criteria that you've configured in the alarm manager matches the trap that is coming from the device.

BTW, what kind of device is it.

yes ,switch send the trap message and with this trap message ,the default alarm Link down is appearing for this port.

But my requirement is that I want to create a new specific alarm (V90 Link) for this ge.1.25 port from A4 switch.Attached the trap and alarm snap ,where you can see the default alarm is appearing for the same port.

Could you please try the following in "Edit Custom Alarm Criteria"...

Match on Severity - set only to Warning

Match on Host/IP - disable this for the test

Match on Information Text - add a new line with only "Agent Interface Down"
!!! please note that the I in Interface is a capital letter - I'm not sure whether Netsight checks for upper/lower case letters!!!

Please try again - for me it works with this settings.

If you get the alarm you'd enable the match for host/IP.
FYI, that wasn't working for me but I think it's because my trap source is "10.12.0.249(via 10.12.0.249)" instead of only the IP, might be that I've done something wrong in the trap config of the switch - need to check that....

I tried without IP and it is working ,but I want to only for a specific device/switch port ,so I need to enable with the IP option ,but it is not working.

Could you please guide me with a IP solution.

Ok, found the issue....

If the trap vom the switch i.e. 10.12.0.249 is send via SNMPv1 then the source field in Netsight show "10.12.0.249(via 10.12.0.249)".
If you use SNMPv2 then the Source is "10.12.0.249" and the alarm works.

If someone could explain that it would be great.....

So just change the switch to send v2 instead of v1 and it should work.

Yes it is working with V2 ,but our IA systems only support SNMP V1 ..Is this possible to do with V1.

There are 2 things here...
1) why does the source field in Netsight show "x.x.x.x(via x.x.x.x)" instead of just "x.x.x.x" if SNMPv1 is used
2) how could you create a custom alarm on source if the field is "x.x.x.x(via x.x.x.x)"

I don't have an answer for you so my advice is to open a GTAC ticket and just refer to this post.
