Hi Rahman,

The Edit Device window does allow you to push your changes to the device itself. In order to save the change on the device (instead of just in Management Center), you need to click the Enforce Preview button after making a change, which opens the Compare Device Configuration window. This window displays your current configuration and the proposed new configuration you are going to push to your device. Clicking the Enforce button will save the configuration change to your device(s).

For additional information, see the Edit Device window help topic here: http://emc.extremenetworks.com/content/oneview/docs/network/devices/docs/ov_at_edit_device.html
Hi,

What is the purpose of "edit device" window on OneVİew? There I can create vlan, add vlans to ports as tagged and untagged, set port alias, set snmp informations etc. When I create a vlan is it also saved to the switch? Or it is completely for informational purposes?

Regards,
Hi,

Well, I just tried to create a test vlan on one of A4H124 switches. I right clicked on the device then clicked edit device button. There I add a new vlan named "test" with id "155". I did not changed anything else. I clicked enforce button. Now I lost my connection to the device.

Any idea what is wrong? Is there any documentation how to use this edit device screen?

Regards,
I edited the snmp name of a switch and it seemed to have rebooted and lost some of the config. I haven't tried to reproduce, but made me wary of using that feature for the time being.

Hi John,

So as I understand, Editing and Enforcing writes all information on the edit window to the switch instead of only writing the changes we did. And I see that configuration on edit window is not sync with the actual running config of the switch. So when I create a vlan and enforce it, it deletes all vlans on the switch and creates the vlan I enforce.

The problem I see is "Edit Device" window does not represent the actual switch config so enforcing breaks running config. I also could not find a way to make "Edit Device" windows sync with devices running config.

Regards.
Hi Rahman,

More info on the edit device is available in the User Guide from the page 143
http://documentation.extremenetworks.com/netsight/8.0/9035088-01_EMC_8.0_EMC.pdf

I am not an A4 switch expert hence i will leave rest of the community to comment on the same.

In case if this is something that has become critical please raise a case with GTAC switching first to restore the switch later on continue with the investigation on what went wrong.
