ZTP+ good feature but unusable in real

I'm currently running XMC / Netsight 8.1.2.59 or newer and like to use ZTP+
I like this feature, because I only need to connect switches to the network and they got at least a firmware update to the lastest version I want to use.
But it's unusable with the XOS Version on X440G2 shipped from Extreme.
If ZTP+ isn't able to update cloud connector to lastest version (which is on XMC Server) und than starting again, this feature is unusable.
On X450G2 Switches it is working...

Peter, help me out lol  I have open tickets on ZTP+ not working right for me for weeks. It has potential once it works. I think it also needs to be updated with Fabric attach capabilities.

Peter, this should work with x440G2 or anything with 21.1+. It's necessary to have CC 3.0 latest in XMC (not 1.1 latest) to use further features of ZTP+ with XMC. Maybe this is your issue?
The upgrade process can be a bit long, and yes, I agree it's lacking at the moment status information: but this is coming.
Do you see the error message in the logs? Which one is it? What is your reference image?

I have cloud connector 3.0.34.54 on XMC Server. I've added older cloud connectors too, maybe for stepwise upgrading --> no help...In Discovery tab I see message "connector to old, please update"I tried to update the cloud connector manually, but after that ZTP+ only does a bit of configuration and don't update XOS to 22.5 (which is on server)...With X450G2 it is working...X460G2 I will test next week...

If you plan to use 22.5, upgrade XMC to 8.1.3 minimum.

Hello all,

i can confirm what Peter was saying in this matter. The same happened to me with new shiny x460-G2 series.

The EXOS from factory was 21.1.3b7 and i've also added the latest cloud connector (summitX-cloud_connector-3.0.34.54.xmod) on the XMC (version 8.1.3.65).

I've got the same message "connector to old, please update"...

To be sure:- is an image marked as reference image in XMC?- did you upload EXOS and CC to XMC with the same protocol? (ie: tftp both, scp both...)?

yes I used alway tftp... but in my eyes... the protocol is unimportant, because it's the same directory... uploading with different protocols takes no effect... you see files (images) only one time

Hi, this is not the same directory if you choose different protocol and that can be an issue.

it is same directory... I've changed all to /tftpboot/firmware/images...default path for scp & ftp makes no sense, because you can't access a file in /root/ when netsight is running not under root ...

Hi Peter.

using the same directory for TFTP and SCP can create issues. In reality the XMC does see the file twice. I recommend to use different directory and different user account. You can configure what user and what path will be used for SCP.

Please, work with GTAC to find the root cause of this.
Still, I'm interested in having the feedback on my last questions (@Peter: any chance that the x450G2 have a different profile than the x440G2?). And to help troubleshoot, also for GTAC, can you enable ZTP+ and InvMgr diagnostics and grab server.log ?

I had similar problem with 21.1.3.7 and 1.1 connector.

In ZTP+ options I had to check 'configuraton updates' and 'firmware upgrades' to always.
Next step was upload reference firmware via XMC, check it as reference - very important step (thanks Piotr Szolkowski for advice) .

Upload newer connector 3.0.34.65 and do not check it as reference.

After that I was able to ZTP+ brand new switch.

Then as far as i see first thing switch need to do is upgrade firmware and connector.

Of course after upgrade XMC waits for configuration

Please note that recent XMC version (not very sure of the first release - 8.2+ for sure) includes recent CC version (latest at the time of GA).

Meanwhile, my solution is to copy all images including cloud-connector to both directories. This is working for me.
