That's odd. Did you try removing the nickname?

I have changed the name of a switch and XMC is not reflecting the name change. I have Rediscovered the switch but it never changes. I have to delete the device out of XMC and add it back to reflect the correct name. I also run Solarwinds NPM and it picks up the name change instantly so I know it's not an SNMP or switch issue.

Do you have a nickname setup for the device? It will always use that name.

When I right click the switch and select Device>Configure Device, the SysName and Nickname are identical but I never add the nickname when I add the device, I leave it blank and it pulls the SNMP Sysname from what I can tell.

I think this is normal behaviour.

When the switch is first added to Netsight it will use the switches sysName to populate both the System Name and Nickname in Netsight.

Thereafter, if you want to change the displayed name you need to go to the Device>Configure Device->Device Annotation and change the Nickname manually.

If you delete the switch altogether and then add it back in, it will get added with the new name as intended. Rediscover doesn't change the nickname, but the System Name in NetSight is automatically updated without doing anything.

As the system name will always automatically update in Netsight to any change on the switch, there might be a way to have it update the Nickname to match, you would perhaps expect as DH says a rediscover to do this - so that would be interesting / useful to know or be added as a feature request?

Correct, I removed the switch and added it back into XMC and it shows correct. It would be nice to have the refresh/rediscover make the change automatically as my other NMS software does.

Thanks for the help!
