With the LLDP option XMC will try and auto-assign the switch to the same Site as its LLDP neighbours. So if for example you had already assigned your core/distribution switches in an XMC site, then when ZTP+ onboards a new access switch which has uplinks into that core/distribution, the new access switch will automatically get assigned in the same site because it will have those core/distribution switches as LLDP neighbours.

Hi,

Just looking through the ZTP+ functionality and specifically at the section for ‘Site Assignment Precedence”.

I understand the ability to assign the device to a site based on the IP configured in the ‘Global IP to Site Mapping’, but not sure about how the LLDP selection functions?

Would that be based on the LLDP-MED Location TLV, say matching the exact same name as site? Although that would have to be pre-configured on the switch, breaking ZTP concept. Maybe completely off the mark, but can’t find any further reference to it other then in the help, shown below:

“Set the precedence by which ZTP+ devices will be assigned to the site. This field is used in conjunction with the Global IP to Site Mapping settings in determining the site assignment. For example, during the device configuration, if the precedence is set to IP range only, the device will try to match any of the single IP addresses or fit within a range. If an IP does not match any value in the table then it will default to /World.

The following values can be set:

IP Range, LLDP: Uses IP range first. If no IP range is set, uses LLDP instead.

LLDP, IP Range: Uses LLDP first. If LLDP is not available, uses IP range instead.

LLDP Only: Uses LLDP only.

IP Range Only: Uses IP range only.

None: Uses neither LLDP or IP range.”

Many thanks.
