Run a workflow via API

Hello all

Is it possible to run a XMC Workflow or tasks from external via API? I didn’t find anythin in the API swagger.

The only idea I have is to register the external client as a Syslog client. On the client i would initiate a syslogmessage and then create an alarm for a syslog message that triggers a task.

Yes,

You can make an NBI call that will start the workflow.

Use this package: XMC_NBI from @Markus Nikulski it contains the code to send the NBI calls with python.

You can easily get the code for what you want to do.

Hi Mig,

is me have written the XMC_NBI which is not directly supporting kick workflow. Currently I working on a enhanced version supporting WF, but isn’t finalized jet.
But you can call the NBI like this by your self

Thats great. But I have a strange behavior. With the following query i have different behaviors

query{workflows{allWorkflows {
id
name
}}}

LAB:
I can see all workflows (System and custom workflows)

Productions:
I can see just one custom workflow

with the root user, I can see all workflows but with an ldap user, I can’t see all workflows. But the ldap user has full access

I’ve seen such kind of issue.

In the Users panel where “Authorized Users” are mentioned.

Delete the LDAP User and recreate it manually (Add button) giving it the static “EMC-Administrator” Authorization group.

but finally I want to allow users without full permission to run the workflow via API. So it isn’t a solution to add it statically to “EMC-Administrator”

If I add the user to the Group “NetSight Adminstrator”, it can see all workflows via NBI.

OK,

You should check the permissions to access the NBI API.

You need to know that the permissions are updated (and not added by default) to the existing profiles.

At every release, new features are added and the permissions for those features have to be checked.

I had a similar issue to access the Connect API and the solution was the one I described.

The only possible (and temporary) solution I could see is to create manually a group (cloning the one you want) and assigning the users manually to this group to check if you can bypass this limitation without giving full access to the users.

You can after this open a GTAC case providing the info.

Hey guys,

you should not use the regular user login for API authentication. Is better to keep is separated using the

Client API. Is a bit more pain for managing the login and token. But is much saver.
