That's KB 5252/ent15796, "General Explanation of How Switches Implement 802.1q VLANs", ported to the legacy KB as of Jan 02 2004 from an earlier article drafted outside the knowledgebase.
i am looking for some detailed information how an EXOS Switch handle a data packet (beyond the manual).

In the old Enterasys knowledge-base i knew an article which described exactly what happenend when a packet is arriving on a port - how it is been forwarded - how VLAN and Policy is binding - Queue handling - etc. Is is the complete sequence. It was coming like a block diagram which shows all the details very clearly.

Unfortunately i cannot find the article again - but i knew it and i hope this informatione will be today also available for EXOS and EOS.

If somebody can provide such information it will be very welcome.

Regards,
Matthias
Here's a link to the page Edward mentions:
http://documentation.extremenetworks.com/exos/EXOS_21_1/QoS/qos.shtml

I know Matthias knows this, but wanted to post for others that may read in future.

I'll ask around and see what happened to the old KB article he's referencing.

Matthias, are you referring to Hub-based KB 5115, "Simplified Explanation of Routed Connection Setup for the DFE"?
The original source document was drafted in pre-Policy days (Jun 11 2003).
If this document is not a match, then a few more clues - such as product, era, or author - might help to focus the search.
That EOS document should provide a good baseline to evolve an EXOS-related discussion.
Thank you.

Hi All,

unfortunately both KB 5115 and KB 5252 do not answer my originally question.

These questions are:

+ How does a packet flows in EXOS - explained in the same deepth like KB 5252 does it for EOS

+ On EOS Policy VLAN Binding is always before static VLAN Binding ! Correct ?
Regardsless if the policy is dynamic binded (RADIUS) or bind per admin profile (manual).
Correct ?
Same on EXOS ? Right ?

Regards
