Hi Tom

IIRC the vlan does need to be assigned to at least one port for the vlan interface to be active.

Hi,

I am wondering if someone could help me with a query I have?

I have simply configured a few VLANs on an x460-48p. I have given each VLAN an ipaddress. When I try to ping the IP Address of one of the VLANs I get

Packet Transmit Error; Destination Unreachable

If I add one of the VLANs to a port Untagged I am able to ping the address? Please can someone provide some information into this behaviour?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

Does the port need to be active (have a device on the end of it)?

Thanks (from Tom_Evans)

The vlan must have an active port or be in loopback mode to respond to a ping. To put the vlan into loopback use the following command.

enable loopback-mode vlan XXXX (from Greg_McKillip)
