Hi Stephen,

Apparently some members were auto-subscribed to our community forum. You can stop these emails by hitting the unsubscribe button at the bottom of those emails; see image.

Or go to your account and turn off notifications, or set it to a daily digest. Clck the icon top right and there are two places, one is Email preferences and the other is Community Notifications for fine-grained control.

thanks - all community notification settings had been changed to real time so i was getting updated with every single post. just happened this week.

Sadly the new notification system is a mess and the old system was much better. Why can't we:

- Choose the boards that we want to subscribe to
- get notifications about new threads (not posts)
- ability to subscribe to a thread if we are interested (or if we replied to the thread)

Instead I get a email about every new post in board. Someone creates a new topic that I'm not interested in and I get an email? Fine, thanks for the information. 30 people reply to the thread and I get 30 mails? Whyyy?

@StephanH what's your opinion? I have just unsubscribed from all boards for now and probably won't be that active as before.

What I would like to see is the behavior of previous forum versions - is it possible to set this in the new forum?

Subscribed community: Get one email when a new topic/thread is posted. Don't send emails from replies.
Subscribed topic in a community: do receive emails from replies for the subscribed topic only.

That keeps me informed of new topics, but doesn't flood my inbox with every reply, unless I choose to follow a topic. This was IMO the best feature of the forum, and that made Extreme's forum stand out - it made me actively participate in topics that interested me or where I could try to contribute to the answers.

Can this be set somewhere, and I just don't see it?

It seems Daily Digest doesn't work anyway, so I am now unsubscribed from all boards.

I share your opinion. I have also switched off all notifications.
One message for a new thread is enough, not for every post.
Finally, thanks to Sam's adjustments to the new "Recent posts" menu, I can work in such a way that I look at the new threats a few times a day. That means I can also work without notifications.

I just noticed that you can follow topics that you are interested in. (top right corner on every thread-page)
This gets automatically activated when you reply to a topic. So you get notifications about new posts in a thread that you are actively interested in, even if you have disabled all notifications globally.
The only feature that is missing now: Get notified about new threads.

Frank is spot on here. I spent some time yesterday going through settings looking for a way to differentiate all new topics from all new replies and couldn't seem to find one. Unfortunately, I'm going to be unsubscribing from everything until this is resolved 😞

Someone please @ me when I can safely come back and re-sub to the categories I care about. I suppose I could stay subscribed to product announcements to see what happens there.

follow thread control is associated with the post at the beginning of the thread like so:

Even though I used my account settings and turned all of my joined conversations to "no email" I am still getting a lot of EXTREME_ email. I am going to make a mail rule in my client to filter all this spam to /dev/null until Extreme works out the mail notification problems...

I'll pop my head back in that mailbox in a week or so to see if the chatter has died down. Otherwise ;73s to y'all.

I changed setting to daily digest, snapshot here:

I found that this setting did not have any effect on the day I set it, but has worked as expected starting from the day after.
I now get a daily digest email from the communities I am subscribed to.
The only snag is that I'm not likely to contribute to a thread until the day after, but at least the spamming is over.

First, check your forum's email settings to ensure that notifications aren’t being sent for every single post or reply by default—this is especially important if you’re using platforms like phpBB, MyBB, or Discourse. Disable or limit automatic subscriptions to threads or categories for new users. Next, review any third-party plugins or email integrations that might be involved in sending alerts.
