X670-G2 Upgrade path

Hi Experts,

I have a new one X670-G2 running 800546-00-17 1911N-47285 Rev 17 BootROM: 1.0.2.1 IMG: 22.6.1.4.

There is any recommended upgrade path or could I upgrade straight to version summitX-30.5.1.15?

Hello Carlos,

You can go straight to 30.5, although the recommended version is EXOS 22.7.1.2 Patch 1-21.

Just the last one, if I understood correctly, the recommendation is to run 22.7.1.2 Patch 1-21, not to upgrade to 22.7.1.2 Patch 1-21 and after 30.5, right?

Hi Carlos,

That is correct. EXOS 22.7.1.2 Patch 1-21 is the current recommended stable version. If there is a certain feature that you must run in 30.5, then please run that version. But if there is none, we (in GTAC) recommend sticking with the normal recommended stable version.

direct update is possible. 30.7.2.1 is the current recommended maintenance release for X670G2.

If any below stable version of X670G2.because the other switches (BD 8800 series and X350 ,X450a,X450e) are lowest support eos verion switches.

In case if i am upgraded 30 version it any effect others switches ?

Slight correction. If you are on EXOS 21.x or below, you must first get to 22.x before upgrading to 30.x or 31.x. That does not mean that you need to upgrade both partitions. Once you get one partition up to 22.x, then you can go direct to 30.x or 31.x on the other partition. So for example, if both partitions are on 16.2.5.4 patch1-6, then upgrade one of them to 22.x and reboot. Once you’re actively running 22.x, then you can upgrade the other partition (which still has 16.2.5.4 patch1-6 installed) directly to 30.x or 31.x. The key here is which version is actually running.

I just ran into this with some X440-G2’s a few weeks ago that were still running 21.x. The upgrade to 31.x would fail until I upgraded to the latest 22.x version on one partition first, and rebooted into that partition (aka “image”).

Regarding X440-G2s: There was a bug that prevented an upgrade to 30.3 or higher. This was fixed in 30.7.1.1: https://extremeportal.force.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000059243

If an upgrade to 31.x is not possible, there might be another new bug. 🙂

You can upgrade a 440-G2 to the latest 31.x. The problem that we ran into was that if it was below 22.x (a few were still running 21.x) we had to upgrade one partition to 22.7.x first. After that we could go straight to 31.x.

The second article you linked is likely what we ran into as the exact error was a TFTP write error.
