Is there a feature like Cisco Flex Links or Juniper RTG?

Hello,

I would like to add an Extreme Networks X440-G2-12p-10GE4 Switch to my network.

Now I want to know if there is a feature like Cisco Flex Links or Juniper RTG to connect this acccess switch to two aggregation switches:

And I have another question: If I would buy this switch from a seller, can I get Software Updates from Extreme Networks for this switch? Or do I need a support contract?

I think Extreme does not have a comparable feature, but the same functionality can be achieved with MLAG (Mutli-Chassis Link-Aggregation)

MLAG wouldn’t be configured on the X440-G2, but on the aggregation switches. On the X440-G2 it’s just a normal LAG.

thank you very much for your answer. Unfortunately the two aggregation switches do not support MLAG as far as I know (these are Ubiquiti ES-16-XG).

And how do I get software updates for the X400-G2? Do I need to buy a support contract?

As far as I remember X440-G2 has a lifetime warranty with software updates and upgrades covered without a contract.

don’t they have limited lifetime warranty (LLW)?

An LLW will cover security patches and minor fixes, but you don’t get updates or upgrades.

TBH I don’t know what this means for EXOS. Is 30.6 → 30.7 a update that is covered by LLW? Or only from 30.6.1 to 30.6.2?

AFAIU all 1-Gig G2’s have Limited Lifetime Warranty with Express Advanced Hardware Replacement-2 which covers both upgrades and updates for their lifetime. 🙂

I will try myself, I have received X440-G2 that is 22.6 and will try to just download 30.7 today. 😉

According to this table you are right, yes. Thanks for the link! And there it is also described:

Software release versions are indicated by A.B.C. “A” indicates a Major Release Number. Major software releases are Upgrades. “B” and “C” indicate Minor (sustaining) and Maintenance Release Numbers. Minor and Maintenance releases are Updates.

I took the warranty finder at https://www.extremenetworks.com/support/policies/ and there it says that X440G2 has limited lifetime warranty. And here it says the following:

Finally, there’s software to consider. An LLW will cover security patches and minor fixes, but you don’t get updates or upgrades.

Maybe this is outdated or somehow doesn’t apply to X440G2. I look forward to the result of your test ;o

Hmm, what if you searched for 1653, the first 4 digits of X440-G2 P/N? I see all as LLW eAHR-2… Anyway, another way to solve it is to look at the service attach matrix available for partners. I have been quoting these in the past and they didn’t have anything mandatory, just because of the warranty in an Ets style. 😉

FYI, I’ve sucessfully downloaded few .xos files varying between 22.7 - 31.2 without any issue. I don’t own any support contract for any of my gear.

Now there are two other questions with X440-G2-12p:

Where can I download the software? Do I need to register the serial number first?
Has this switch fans or is it fanless? If it has fans, how loud are them?

No warranty-related product serial number registration. If you bought it, they know your assets. If not, you can escalate to GTAC.

12p has fans, they run for two or three minutes during bootup, then it goes totally quiet. I didn’t make loaded much enough to turn the fans on... using AAA + ExtremePolicy + Telemetry + nodealias + link-flap detection + ELRP + static routing (and more to come) with VMware + 3 APs + 1 PC, few VLANs and MAC addresses and nothing happens… I’m glad as the switch lays 1 ft away from my head now. 🙂

When it boots up, it’s IMHO much less noisy than regular rack-mounted brethren such as X460-G2. In the datasheet X460-G2 is 48.9 dB (bystander sound pressure) when ambient temperature is not higher than 45*C, and X440-G2… datasheet declares “0 dB Fan Off”. It just came me to my mind right now to try and have a seat on the switch and see what happens but I’m not sure should I be doing this.
