If the ports the PCs are using are configured in the same VLAN and if the PCs' IP configuration is correct (both in the same subnet) they should be able to ping each other. As Drew mentioned, the Pcs' firewall could be in play here. If not, then provide the port configuration of the switch and also the IP configuration of the PCs.

Hello,

Welcome to the community.

I'm trying to be friendly here, but you know there is a thing called documentation that one can read. Here's a link to the product documentation of the latest XOS release: https://www.extremenetworks.com/support/documentation/extremexos-30-2/

In case you already passed that step, then could you tell us what is blocking you?

Thanks.

Also to spin off jeronimo's comment there are many different ways to configure a switch for any vendor. If you could help us understand what you hope to achieve we can direct you to the right documentation or provide you with some recommendations.

As others mentioned, you've got to give us more to go on. Out of the box with no configuration, the X480 will function as a layer 2 switch on all ports.
I'd suggest starting with the EXOS Quick Guide.

The X480 is only supported through the 16.x EXOS versions (currently 16.2+).
Here's the documentation links for that: https://www.extremenetworks.com/support/documentation/extremexos-software-16-2/

i did this
configure vlan default tag 1
configure vlan default ipaddress x.x.x.x/24
save
Now the PC was able to ping the ip address x.x.x.x but the two PC for a test cannot ping each other.

I will appreciate your help

Most commonly, the Windows firewall is the reason two PCs can't ping each other in tests like the one you have described. Are the PCs connecting to the rest of the network as expected? Try your test again with another device or after allowing ping through the windows firewall.

Today you learned a very important skill in diagnosing things: You need to be able to take a step back and look at the whole picture.
