Hi,

I'm looking for information about the number of required license upgrades and.or feature packs on BlackDiamond. Is this per MSM basis or per chassis basis? What if I do RMA/replacement of MSM and/or chassis?

Is MPLS Feature Pack require Core License Upgrade first?

Best regards,

Hello,

The licenses on the Black Diamond switches are all done in the NVRAM of the switch. As to an RMA, with an entitled switch you will receive an additional voucher that you will get a new license code for the new hardware, including feature packs. You buy one per switch, regardless of the MSM's
You can apply an MPLS feature pack on Advanced Edge, however this only makes sense in some limited situations where you don't need Core license features (BGP, IS-IS, OSPF with more than 4 interfaces).
Mrxlazurdin,

The MPLS Feature Pack requires only Advanced Edge license, which is the default one for BD 8800.

To be able to run MPLS in a BD ALL the modules must be of the 8900 -xl/-xm series. If you have any -c modules (or older ones), you will have to remove them. That includes the additional ports added to the MSM modules.

Where can I find the official documentation OSPF interface limitation of AE license and the need of MSM-128 and xl/xm series modules for running MPLS.

Hi,

What about the MSM uplink modules? Will that modules work with MPLS/VPLS if it is attached to MSM-128?

No. All those modules are -c. They have to be removed for MPLS to work.
