    <description>The link is approx 4 miles and  the customer has moved our gear.  They are using a multi mode patch cable on the single mode link.  While this is wrong and being corrected today, the link was working over it until recently.</description>

I have already swapped optics and will be heading 2 hours to the site to swap ports. &lt;BR /&gt;

Any additional insight would REALLY be appreciated.&lt;BR /&gt;

      <description>I would question why you have almost a 3 db difference in light levels on such a short run... Was that extra loss there before the port flaps?  If not then you may have a bend in a splice case somewhere or a patch problem... maybe it not seated in frame on back side ... As a rule we try to keep under 2 db difference in fiber loss on ten gig links.  Longer links we are more flexible but a short link the fibers should have very close to the same loss... &lt;BR /&gt;
