topic RE: How to Add a Port of Edge Switch in a VR which is available in Core Switch? in ExtremeSwitching (Other)

Hi,

if you are using routing on the edge switches, you can create a virtual router the same way as on the core switch. According to the Feature License Requirements document that is supported on about any recent layer 3 EXOS based switch.

If the edge switches are layer 2 only, you just need to add the VLAN. The virtual router pertains to layer 3 only.

To add VLANs from different virtual routers to a trunk link (this would be on the X8 side for layer 2 edge switches or on both sides between X8 and layer 3 edge switch) you need to remove the port from VR-Default. If a port is associated with a specific VR, only VLANs of that VR can use the port. If a port is not associated with a specific VR, any VLAN can be added to that port.

Thanks,
One of our ISP providing two IP Series to provide Internet. We can take it IP Series A and IP Series B. They have asked us to enable IP route between them. So, This was done by creating new VR other than VR-Default. Called VR-ISP.

If we want to get the internet we will add the port to this VR-ISP. No issues in Core Switch. It is X8. The issue is, not able to configure this ISP in our edge switches.

What is the Procedure to enable ithis ISP ports in our edge switches. Please help us to resolve this issue.

Sir,
Thanks for the information.

We need to add a Vlan1(Which is already on virtual-router vr-NKN_ISP) as tagged in uplink ports of our edge switches. Our existing uplink ports are already belongs to virtual router VR-Default. While we try to execute the following command, we are getting below error.

"configure vlan "Public" add ports 3:41 tagged"

"Error: Port 3:41 belongs to virtual router VR-Default. VLAN is created on virtual-router vr-NKN_ISP. Configuration failed on backup MM, command execution aborted!"

But, We are able to do this by following procedure.

1. Removing the port from VR-Default
2. Add the uplink port as tagged in the Vlan1(Which is already on virtual-router vr-NKN_ISP) .
3. Adding the uplink port as tagged in the Vlan2(Which is already on virtual-router VR-Default)

But, not able to do this in reverse manner.
1.Vlan2(Which is already on virtual-router VR-Default)
2.Vlan1(Which is already on virtual-router vr-NKN_ISP)
