When i upgrade a Summitstack (8 nodes X250e-24x) with new firmware (XOS) then not all nodes wil be upgraded. Downloading goes well, but installing of the new firmware fails. Anyone got an idea what goes wrong, and knows how to solve this problem ?

Can you provide what errors you see in the log? Please post the pertinent stack errors from "show log". I would suspect that that you have nodes that are in different partitions which are preventing you from updating.

Otto,

I have never seen that error before but I would suspect something with the code version or file that you are trying to install. When you update a stack it will upgrade the last switch first all the way through the master. What version of code (with file name) are you trying to use and did you download from the support site?

Done that already, and also did a MD5 check. I also tried another/newer version of the software.
None solved my problem. We have 36 stacks (36 x 8 switches).... :-((

Everything there looks good on the stacking front thus far, can you send me the output of "show stacking" and "show version images" ? One thing that I did notice is that there looks to be a version mismatch on the master and the backup. If you look at master/backup in the primary on the master you have 12.0.3.16 and the backup you have 15.3.14, sometimes upgrading from 12.0.x code as per your master things can go sideways. When you send me your "show ver images" we can take it from there.

Hi Otto, I agree with Bill.

This issue might be related to an old EXOS version installed in 2 stacking nodes.

All other nodes have downloaded the EXOS code 15.3.1.4 to the primary partition except Slot-1 and Slot-5 as follows:

Hi Henrique,

I did that with another stack (with X250e-24x) and had the same problem. I downloaded software to the faulty slots. So every slot had the same software. But when i rebooted the stack, some slots failed to come up, and i had to synchronize and rebooted the slots.

I also upgraded stacks with X440-24x switches with no problems. My opinion is that this a problem only with X250 switches and/or software.

We have 12 stacks (8 x X250-24x) and 24 stacks (8 x X440-24x). I am still struggling with the X250's, but i'm glad with every help you give me...

Otto,

Agree with Henrique, because the two slots have older code that has images named "12.0.3.16-summitx450-12.0.316.xos" you need to update the slots primary's to match the rest of them. To do that you need to update the primary on slot 1 and 5 - to do that you need to do the update specifically by doing the following "download image vr vr- primary" - when you are downloaded install it but do not reboot. Once you have that installed you can try the update from there.

The other issues that could be you have some slots in the stack that are on the wrong partition. All of slot have to be in the same location, i.e... all slots need to be booted in the primary partition. Telnet into each slot and do the "show switch" command. Take a look and let me know.

Yes.. Once they have the software installed you can try to add it again. Before you do check the version images and also go to each slot and make sure each one is booted into the same partition.

I will now install some xmods, but i exspect no problems with that.

I will upgrade the faulty stacks per slot...

RE: When i upgrade a Summitstack (8 nodes X250e-24x) with new firmware (XOS) then not all nodes wil be upgraded.

When i tried to upgrade 1 slot, it failed..

Installing to Slot-5(Standby): ............Error: Failed to install image on Slot-5 - This hardware is not supported for this software release. Please see the ExtremeXOS Concepts Guide for information on installing a newer software release. See the Release Notes for your hardware to verify the supported ExtremeXOS releases.

Install image failed: (see above error message)

Another slot however, was succesfull..
