How to Upgrade VSP8284 XQS switch Firmware using WinSCP?

Hello,

I am planning to upgrade the firmware of the VSP8284 XQS switch. Can I do it via WinSCP?

Meaning load the firmware to the switch using WinSCP and then apply the firmware to the current version.

Hello GM,

Yes, this is possible. Use WinSCP to login and transfer the software file to the switch using for example FTP or SCP. Then go through the practice of extracting the files and activating the software remembering to do software commit once happy it is working.

To add to this: in preparation to it just make sure, your boot flag for "ftpd" is enabled and so is the ssh sftp . Verify it by "show ssh global".

Also make sure , there are less than six software versions installed. otherwise remove old versions (software remove).

Hello,

Thanks for the solution. However, we do not have an FTP server on premises. We tried setting up a temporary FTP server on a PC to upload the image, but the process always fails at the final step.

Is there a way to log in to the switch using WinSCP and directly upload the image to the appropriate directory?

For example, in Juniper devices we log in via WinSCP, upload the image to the /var/tmp directory, and then use PuTTY to access the device and reboot with the new image.

Could you please confirm which directory we should upload the image to in this case?

You don’t need to setup an FTP server. Just enable the boot config flag ftpd and use WinSCP directly like you do with Juniper. The location is /intflash.
