topic 7520 switch running vsp fails to connect to BT NTE in ExtremeSwitching (VSP/Fabric Engine)

We have been running a migration successfully until we hit a snag recently.

I have a 7520 switch running VOSS 9.4.1 with a 1gig SX SFP installed. We move a working BT NTE connection at 1gig from the Cisco to the Extreme (same SFP type and same cable) and the Extreme switch brings the interface up/up, however the NTE is orange indicating an error on its side.

We have tried the obvious, change polarity on cable, using nonegotiate etc, but to no effect.

The show pluggable-opticalmodules detail indicates a good RX/TX signal level and doesn't show any thing out of the ordinary.

Has anybody else faced a similar issue? And if so, what was the fix?
