topic Scheduled Reboots - Possible yet? in ExtremeWireless (IQE)

Does anyone know if its possible yet to set a reboot schedule for AP's? Last I remember it was suggested to do some kind of python script against their API - not happening -... I was hoping it might have got introduced into the XIQ management console by now. thanks,

There is no action in XIQ to just reboot APs, but you can schedule a 'complete configuration' push.

XIQ - How to schedule a Complete Configuration Update

Yup, knew about that one. Its just there have been times when I do that and the AP becomes unresponsive and goes offline in XIQ, but is pingable and I have had to SSH into them and run the command "reboot current/backup" to get them back online, and Ive even had that fail and had to find the switch port it was in and unplug it. With 182 AP's, I dont want to risk it. But thanks anyway, appreciate your reply. Say hi to SamPirok if you share an office... he's a good guy too. J

Yes, it is very easy to do scheduled reboots of the APs. We reboot our APs on a weekly schedule. You just use the Supplemental CLI. We've been doing this since the beginning of XIQ. Just go into the Wireless configuration of your network policy and turn on Supplemental CLI (or you can do individual APs by doing a Supplemental CLI on the particular APs). Add the command to schedule the reboot. For example: "reboot schedule weekly every 1 week(s) Saturday time 00:30:00" configures the APs under this network policy to reboot every week on Saturday at 12:30 AM.

Supplemental CLI has been a part of XIQ from the beginning. I'm not sure why you were told a scheduled reboot would need to be done via a python script against their API.

What do you mean there is no action in XIQ to just reboot APs? In Devices, select the AP(s) then click Actions, then Reboot. Also, under Actions you could go to Advanced->CLI Access and issue the reboot command while SSH'ed into the AP.

Hi, One alternative could be to schedule a task in XIQ-SE to bounce the PoE on the ports where the APs are located.

Keep in mind that if the APs lose communication with XIQ repeatedly to the point of needing a reboot, that's not normal; it would be good to investigate what's happening.
Raúl

That's if they are running switches that are manageable via XIQ-SE. XIQ-SE has limited support outside Extreme switches (and even some limitations within Extreme switches).

And the advantage of scheduling the reboot on the AP is that the AP will do a graceful shutdown and reboot. Power cycling the PoE port is a more abrupt shutdown. I would only do that if the AP was unresponsive. That's like pulling the power cord to your computer to shut it down, which I hope we can all agree is not a good thing to do.
